Howdy, am a regular at Demetre Park since last year- usually get by weekly or biweekly, not counting this brutal summer. Live off Camp Road in JI from West Ashley before. Notice the other thread by Kebda, I swear I’ve met that guy- he usually has a surf cart and fishes the beach area but havent seen him since the Spring, but havent really been to the park much myself with the weather the past couple months. Real cocky, arrogant, know it all, same speak from his posts, talks about all his travels, he is a professional on some circuit, and all the fishing trips and all the fish he catches, even seen him pull out his phone with pics of fish. Has to be the same guy, you cant make this up. Anyhows, hope he has not given the park a bad name. Know many people and have met many people who love fishing there and arguably one of the most beautiful pieces of land in the Lowcountry. Me and my family discovered it last year. The fishing has its ups and downs just like everywhere.
Wow, this guy is a legend in his own head it seems. I believe I saw him there once as well, had an older kid with him fishing the beach, just asked if he had caught anything and he said he had released a big red earlier. Take a picture if you see him again and post it.
He is a legend. I don’t think I like your tone.
be sure to take the pic so it will show his secret spot!
this is the first time i have heard of this park is the fishing there any good? not tryingto steal anyones spot just some variety to a new saltwater fisherman.
Some people catch bull reds there all the time. Even an occasional billfish or tarpon.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

It sits on Charleston Harbor next to the James Island Yacht Club. I would say its about as good as anywhere else. Have seen days where people catch little or nothing and days with nice inshore fish of every variety. But the park is really known for its beautiful views, it overlooks most of the Charleston area, and has maps showing you the landmarks etc. People universally talk about the view and beauty of the park, no other place like it. Mr. Demetre who there is a big stone monument to, left one hell of a gift to the people of Charleston.
That Kebda is a borderline Yankee (VA), Hiliary supporting, Cop hating, Anti-military (mho), know it all about nothing, Pond fishing, Masters degree in BullSh@t with honors in ignorance, A one-upper to the tenth power that just started saltwater fishing 3 years ago per his own post, and a Fake fish picture posting type of guy. But other than that I hear he teaches all who fish Sunrise park all his secret’s with a open heart and mind…

Hi Guys,
I recently moved to the Charleston area from outside Virginia Beach after a job transfer. I’ve been reading up on these topics since discovering the site a few weeks ago. Thanks for all the great discussion and insight. Settled in Mt Pleasant and will fish the Wando, IOP, and Intercoastal rivers. Quick question- are there fishing seasons down here or do most species run year round. Now that we are getting out of summer, does the action change as the weather cools down in Fall? I had more experience with Freshwater while in Virginia and am just learning the area fishing and techniques
The Sunrise park expert has only lived here for 3 years and supports Hiliary and post fake photo’s…I wonder if there is a go back to va .com…
Big Ego And Big Liar, I know regulars who fish Demetre Park who actually have something to brag about and do none of the bragging. This clown seems like he should take a break from fishing and go campaign for Hillary and her non stop lies and burn down the cities, Milwaukee the last couple days, with the Black Lives Matter people. At least he wouldnt have to put on a front anymore.

Sunrise Park is not a place anywhere, I heard that name one time at the park and asked someone why they used it. Apparently some of the people in the neighborhood and others use to call it Sunrise Park before Mr. Demetre donated the land to the city of Charleston for use as a park and the park was officially named Demetre Park as the signs everywhere say. Its confusing and nobody knows it by that name anymore. I understand yall use to call the Ravenel Bridge the Cooper River Bridge for decades, use that term today and nobody knows what the hell you are talking about either.
Yep, Sunrise Park is old school, I think before they dedicated it as a park, that what people called it. Still hear that term every now and then but its usually people who havent been to the park in like 5 or 10 years and have no clue its now run by the City of Charleston and dedicated to Demetre. Stupid name, if someone is going to donate that kind of land and that much money, the least you can do is name it after them.
If you don’t know Sunrise park you aint a local, Just like not knowing what the Old Cooper river bridge and the New cooper river bridges means.
You’re talking about Sunrise Park by the Yacht Club right?
Yes

Again no such place, I see signs for Demetre Park on the way to the park, and a sign that says Demetre Park at the entrance of the park and a stone monument to Mr. Demetre who the park is named after. Ive been to that park probably 20 times in the last year and have heard that named used like twice. I guess you can call it whatever you like, just like someone can call me Kevin when my real name is Joey, as they can with your name.
I believe we need Kebda to settle this.

Ha ha that they can do. I am a lifelong Charlestonian, some people will continue to call the bridges Cooper River bridge instead of Ravenel Bridge. Who cares, its named what its named whether they like it or not, donate your own park and you can get a say to as what the name is if its really that big a deal to some people. 95%+ of people call it Demetre Park, in 10 years it’ll be 99% and in 100 years it’ll be 100% as that is the permanent name of the park. Now, let me get off my phone before I have a wreck driving over the Cooper River Bridge, lol.

Actually it is just like this:
Your name used to be Kevin when I knew you.
You changed it to Kimberly recently, and I have not seen you since then.
I see you and call you Kevin, but then say, “or Kimberly, sorry, forgot that it got changed.”
It’s simple, really, and surely not worth arguing over.
