Disasterous morning in the FM, update on hrt atack

Well, got up at the crack of “what am I doing up this early” and headed up to the forest to try and kill some meat for the freezer. Started my way out along a field with barely enough light to see, get about 500 yds. and hear 3 shots in a row, hmmmm, first thought is, how on earth can someone even see to shoot? Stand there a few minutes thinkin bout it and again 3 shots ring out in a row. Bingo, someones in trouble I think to myself, I start to head to where the shots came from go another 500 yds or so and I fire a shot off then listen, 3 more shots in a row ring out and I take off at a run in that direction(with empty chamber) and come up on a gentleman looking to be about 70 yo laying on the ground with one hand on his rifle and another hand clutching his chest. I come up on him and he is soaking wet from sweat and shivering and can barely speak he is gasping for air so bad. Checked his ABC airway, breathing, circulation and he was gasping for air but breathing, heartbeat felt like it was going fast one min then slow the next and he could hardly speak he was gasping so bad. I pull out cell phone, no service. I’m now about 3/4+ of a mile from truck. Gave him some water from my bottle and stuck a asprin from my first aid kit on my hip and tried to get him to chew it figuring he had just had a heart attack. I debated for a second or two on leaving him and going for help but decided against it so up over my shoulders in a firemans carry he goes and then he won’t let go of his friggin rifle. I keep tellin him to drop it and finally I have to tug it free from him and leave it there telling him I will come back for it. I get about 100 yds and now I am soaked in sweat and it’s about 62 degrees out. I debated leaving my rifle at this point then figured if I had to signal someone else that it would be best off to have it. This guy was pushing 200 lbs if he was an ounce, how I ever carried him that far I have no idea or clue, I guess adrenaline just took over, at one point I stumbled and ended up face down with him on to

Wow dude, that is heroic. Good on you!

Thats an awesome story, I’m pretty sure you couldn’t sleep with all of those thoughts on your mind. I hope he is ok and thank you for doing the right thing.

Looking for the big one

Good on you for caring and lending a helping hand. You probably saved that fellows life. It takes a quality person to do what you did.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Glad God got you up early to save that guy’s life. You are a hero in my book.

What kind of question is that?
a) Are you going to go find it?
b) You are more concerned about dying guy’s rifle than his life?
c) Do you not care that Russ was not in shape to go get the dying guy’s rifle after hauling his heavy butt out.

Wow, Russ that is heroic. Now you know why God got you out of bed.
Good on you.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

Wow!!

How awesome of you and lucky for him. And an aspirin to boot, you may have saved him ‘twice’.

Sure hope you BOTH recover quickly.

Good deal. Did you let the someone know where the gun was, or is it still there?

Yeah DC I need another gun to sell. I think what Russ did was a tremendous thing. I know if I had tried that there would have been two of us laying out there some where. Yes I do care about my fellow men and do hope the gentleman pulls through and also that Russ is ok. I just asked cause he said he took the mans gun and threw it down and after meeting the ambulance he went home after getting himself together. So do me a favor and kiss my a**.

Russ, thank you for doing something that I dought I could have pulled off and for not being one of the better than thou fellows on here. You did great and I applaud you.

Dang man, what a morning! Good job thinking on your feet…hearing 3 shots I probally would of just sat down next to a tree thinking…there is some idiot close by…already shooting before good light! Man, good on you! The good lord got you up early for a reason!! I hope the guy recovers and that your knee stops screaming at you!! Great job and keep us posted!

“The Unsinkable Legend”

Just heard from his son briefly, he is in ICU after suffering 2 major heart attacks they figured. His son said he knows where abouts he was and I gave him GPS numbers on where I found him and left his gun and he is going to try to go get it this evening if he can get away from hospital. Thanks for all the comments guys, I don’t feel heroic or anything just very emotional about it all. I am just thankful to be able to do what I could to help him. Been laying in bed doin a lot of thinkin in general about life and what not. When it all comes down to it we are all at the mercy of God. I just thank the good Lord that I was taught by my parents to allways be prepared for the worst and to expect the best and to allways, allways help ones fellow man out when in need.

(p.s. Please guys, no bickering on this thread, give me that much if you will)

Thanks for sharing the story, I believe I’ll start carrying some aspirin with me maybe even start carrying my nitro. Don’t know what the deal is but seems like all my friends are getting old. It’s a shame he was more concerned with the rifle than his life. Won’t be there for him when he’s gone.

I imagine you’ll be sore for a couple of days when it finally hits you.

What a story…You are a heck of a nice guy. I hope the monster buck gods shine on you.

Russ, I appologise to you sir. I ment no disrespect in the question I asked and do hope that you are alright. It is good to know that the gentleman you helped is gonna be ok.

Absolutely incredible! You saved the mans life with that asprin. Stories like this make me proud to be a hunter and human being. Great job Russ.

Awesome story, I hope that everything is ok with the fella. Doing a deed like that is more rewarding than any meat in the freezer.

Too blessed to be stressed.
