DNR seeks hunter input on deer regulations

“I don’t shoot nice bucks because the little ones taste better!”

I’ve been poking fun on this thread, but seriously I will personally donate money/deer to a family in need. Point me in the right direction.

They eat the best when they still have spots. You can’t cook horns tender:smiley:

Dang it cracker! Not from you!. Put that young a deer on the grill and you better have some Pam on it so it doesn’t stick and fall apart on the grill.

I’ve actually seem people bring in a 40-60 lb deer and pay to have it processed! Both back straps might make a meal for two.

Maybe something could be put into law that nothing with spots can be taken?

My dad killed a little 75lbs spike Monday (little 3.5 inch spikes). I sent him a photo from my trail camera of a nice buck coming out at my place. His reply was exactly that, “you can’t eat the antlers.” Again, that is exactly why I don’t let him hunt my place anymore. He is pretty much over it now, but he was awful butt hurt last season. It is tempting sometimes, but I know the reward is greater if I wait for the bigger deer regardless of antler size–bigger deer means more meat. Here is a perfect example, my best friend killed this buck yesterday morning. It is only a 6 point, but it weighed in officially at 196lbs.

Now that is a deer worth shooting…not a 75lbs spike.

That’s a nice one! Any buck over 190lb in the lowcountry is a big un. Heck over 175! I remember when a 160lb buck was the exception. Guess all this corn on the ground is paying off!

Right. This is an old deer. We think 5 years old.
