Do any of y’all fish around Bull Point up Huspa Creek off of Whale Branch? How about Whale Branch itself? What’s the redfish and trout fishing like there? Is that too far inshore to find many?
I’ve been looking around and would like to find a place to buy or rent so that I can spend more time fishing and may look at that area.
Anyone know much about Bull Point community? I’ve looked it over on line and it looks nice but will likely be more expensive than what I’m thinking about.
Good fishing all around Sheldon. Follow the creek out head to the right go past grays hill landing good areas all over, head across the broad river into boyde creek. Head left toward whale branch bridge dead low is decent for sheep head by the pillars , first tiny creek to left just past bridge is good for trout. Keep heading out and after the second set of docks go a little further to the governors dock on left. Super secret good hole. All that area is good fishing.
I made a plan according to Fred67’s advice and put in at about 9:00 Saturday at Gray’s Hill landing. Just over an hour before low tide. There wasn’t even enough water near the ramp to soak my minnow trap while getting the boat in the water. Got the dreaded skunk but had a really great day on the water. I saw four bald eagles during the day.
The area around the ramp has lots of potential. There’s lots of oyster rakes and mud flats. I went straight across Whale Branch from the ramp and fished a promising section where there were nice looking oyster beds below the grass but couldn’t any fish. Went towards the broad to Goat Island and fished another nice bank with the same results. When the tide turned I followed it into a bunch of oyster rakes. I saw some mullet and birds diving on bait but didn’t see fish there either. It was really nice in the morning with plenty of sun and a little breeze. As the day went on the clouds covered the sky and the wind picked up. I went up Whale Branch to the creek Fred pointed out but by that time the water was so high that I didn’t fish there. Did some more exploring and talked to a family fishing for sheeps at the bridge. They were catching a few but nothing big.
I made my way back to the ramp and had got the boat on the trailer when the sheep fishing family came in. I talked to him for a while and he indicated that redfish and trout are plenty thick in the area when it gets warmer. I’ll be back then.
