DORIAN

Still to early to be concerned? Time to make plans? What do ya’ll think?

Never too early to be concerned and prepared living near the coast ! Fresh gas for the generator, a little cash hidden away, meds stocked up, plenty of dog food, car and trucks topped off, spare chains for chain saws, and always too much in the freezer.

We’ll see! Hopefully nothing but some needed rain.

Models appear to be showing landfall in Florida with an immediate turn North up through Fla, Ga, and SC. IF IF it turns North earlier and stays out over water, that shoots it into Ga, SC, or NC. We’re just talking a matter of 50 miles or so. The entire coast from Fla to NC could get raked.

Not to early to be concerned.

Check out the app Windy, it shows it making landfall in Florida and then making a turn North following the coastline towards CHS.

If that scenario would eliminate the destruction, would you go for it?

Careful though, basements tend to flood first…

I’m guessing, Mom already brought the Hot Pocket’s down?

You are such a dweeb. Search Hurricand Debbie and silver iodide. We have a President that actually wants to appeal to our scientists to find a way to reduces the effects of a Hurrican and all you can do is bash him. Why not be part of the solution and donate some money to reducing Huricanes rather than sending it to Hillary Clinton?

We Now have a President actually having the moral fortitude and Inteligence to task our scientists with actually helping reduce the force of a Hurricane. Can you imagine how much money and lives could be saved? And you just hate Trump so much you could care less about coastal inhabitants being saved millions… BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

Dropping a Nuke on a hurricane… that’s just media hipe and B.S. Sorry you are so weak minded to believe it.

Nice

During one our last Hurricanes I lost 3 days OT pay from the job thanks to our hebetudinous Governor over a little bit of wind and sprinkling of rain.
When Mathew came by, they reversed I26 lanes on Wed. I worked the rest of the week, left out of Charleston Fri. after work, easy drive to Columbia, was working a different job then.
If you feel you really need to leave…leave and enjoy your Milk sandwiches with Water.

I’ve been sitting in on conference calls since Tuesday. Initially the SCEMD was “the sky is falling, the sky is falling”. Things seemed to have calmed down (they were initially talking full coastal evac) and we should have a much better picture of what is expected to happen (to some degree) later today. The storm has slowed overnight and it is looking more like we might get “back doored” with heavy rain which at some point will probably result in coastal flooding (that and the king tides expected). I’ll share what I find out today as I have 3 more conference calls to sit through…yaay.

The trigger was definitely pulled a bit early last year. That being said, you never want to be the one that makes the wrong call as it isn’t easy to mobilize the 1,000s of people it takes to execute a lane reversal/evacuation.

Hell no, unless you want radioactive fallout raining on you in Lint-ville.

Silly lint head.

And, there’s also the slight problem that—in the words of Robert Nelson, a physicist who studies nuclear weapons—“It’s just wacky.”

For starters, as NOAA observes, there’s the issue of radioactive fallout, which would “fairly quickly move with the trade winds to affect land areas and cause devastating environmental problems.”

Also, it wouldn’t work. The key obstacle is the amount of energy required. The heat release from a hurricane is equivalent to a 10-megaton nuclear bomb exploding every 20 minutes, NOAA calculates. In order to shrink a Category 5 hurricane into a Category 2 hurricane, you would have to add about a half ton of air for each square yard inside the eye, or a total of a bit more than half a billion (500,000,000) tons for an eye 25 miles in diameter. “It’s difficult to envision a practical way of moving that much air around,” NOAA says.

Today, international law prohibits us from even trying. The Peaceful Nuclear Explosions Treaty, signed and ratified by the United States in 1990, limits the yield of weapons for non-military purposes to 150 kilotons—a formal acknowledgement that you can’t fight Mother Nature, especially with nukes.

Maybe drop Poly Ball In the eye of that Hurt-A-Cane and ask him what he thinks of Trump…

There’d be sooooooo much hot air coming out of him, you’d implode that Hurt-A-Cane into a summer shower.

You are right. Sorry everyone. More on the off topic side, wouldn’t it be cool if our scientists could come up with a way to reduce the effects of a hurricane?!
