Changed up our spot today as my backyard has been on the slow side. We found our new spot after deciding not to walk to to the original spot which was a hike, and I also decided not to text or notify anyone of this change. Oops my bad. Russell and I got setup and started going for bait which was easy, we instantly had a few whiting, small blues and even a jack crevalle which is not common in south carolina.
I paddled out a ray wing on my spinfisher v 10500 just beyond the second breakers and within maybe 15 minutes or so I had a fish on. Easy hook set tightened the drag a bit and we were good to go. The last fish I caught on this reel was my 8 or 9#8242; lemon and it certainly was a lot meaner than this one. Today?s lemon was another 7?4 one, and the spinfisher 10500 made easy work of her. While trying to make sure the shark didnt swim towards the only group of swimmers out there it still only took maybe 10 to 15 minutes to land her and another 2 to photo and release her. She swam away strong and the people who gathered behind me cheered to see her safe.
Soon after I was approached by our local news station, and talked to him a bit trying to clarify some of the recent stories in South Carolina and help educate him on sharks in general. We will see how that turns out, but he promised me there would be no negative spin.
