Caught a black drum today that bottomed out a 60 lbs boga grip

Brian I bet that got your heart racing… Have you seen or heard of any fish being caught yet?

Hey Brian I left you a voicemail.

Drum come from the wrecks or you catch them inshore? Just heard of another guy catching a few big ones a few days ago.

Good for you, Brian!

The other guy was Jay Lovell. This is what he reported:

“We caught two in excess of 60lbs and another about 35lbs”

Burnt out railroad trusses down from grays. Holds big drum. Half crab on bottom.

Jay and Maci must have been fishing together…thats a big fish

I bet that was a fight on a redfish setup. Good job!

Sounds like backlash and old school went fishing together.

Haha yeah. Temp at bridge is 59.9 right now. No cobia expert, but I know enough to know that’s too cold.

What is water temp before Cobia show up , about 65 ?

At least 67-68 in the AM, but IMO, you’re not gonna see much till after AM temps hit 70. Cobia run is just hitting it’s stride in the Cape Canaveral area. It’ll be at least a month here.

Brian, had a client catch one very similar to yours on Tuesday just off the beach. Don’t know what it weighed but it was a pig. Actually caught it on a half ounce bucktail and a 3 in Gulp chartreuse swimming mullet tail! On a 7 foot medium light spinning rod and 20 pound braid. Took a bit I promise. A nice 10 lb Redfish was next, then the wind kicked in and we had to boogie back inshore. I tried to attach a picture, but I can’t make it work. I’ll send it to Wildlifesc and get him to post it.
