Early spring action?

Hi, I’m Chris from Columbia. Was thinking of heading down this weekend for some beachwalking as I do a dozen or so times per year. Seeing any action in the surf yet? Getting antsy, not much more reel cleaning and tackle organization I can do. LOL

The big blues should be showing soon but I have t heard of any being caught yet. Idk good luck and report any action

Will do if I make it down, Thnx SurfWrangler

No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.

Roddy I had my best day last year in March. With that being said I think I caught a day where things just lined up and I was in the right place at the right time and was ready for it. It was at the end of a barrier island that bordered an inlet using chunk fresh mullet. March 10th the fish hit from 12:09 to 4:10 pm. High tide was at 2:12 pm that day/ 3.74 feet. Partly cloudy/ west winds. Essentially 2 hrs before and 2 hrs after high tide then the bite just shut off. A report was made last year titled excellent day in the surf and may have more info for you. Some bars and troughs were present. I don’t know how good an “open beach” will be, but those were the conditions of where I found some. Hope this helps and good luck.

runbabyrun, your memory is impeccable. How are you able to do that? I can’t remember what I had for supper last night.

RoddyBuilt, I’ve been out in the surf several times this year, and only caught one puffer fish. I think things will start heating up soon, the weather is getting too nice for it not to.

Smart phone:smiley:It ain’t just about trophy pics. It is an excellent tool. You can thumb back through the pics. It gives the date, time, cross reference the tides winds and figure out exactly what the conditions were like when you found them. Shows what you caught and the time of year you caught them. Giving you a good starting point come next season. It doesn’t mean you will see the same success if you mimic it, but it is good to have to see if you can piece together a pattern and help with future trips. Take care Wigg, catch um up:smiley:

This time of year is primo for trout, but I’ve been crushing red drum and black drum with them on the falling tide( bout two hours after high has been best)
