Economic News

Just bought a 30lb jug of freon. was 80-100 bucks two years ago… $320 with my discount. Everything parts wise (if you can even get it) has doubled if not tripled. Just put a set of rear tires on my little Jubilee. Could get em for 350 now the cheapest brand is $680. Inflation is through the roof on most everything. Some just don’t want to admit it. I miss our economy during… opps can’t say that here. but you get it.

C’mon bruh, you still posting crap without researching/checking?

I found different, on several different sites….

What is inflation right now 2023?

3%

The annual inflation rate in the US slowed to 3% in June of 2023, the lowest since March of 2021 and compared to 4% in May and expectations of 3.1%. The slowdown is partly due to a high base effect from last year when a surge in energy and food prices pushed the headline inflation rate to 1981-highs of 9.1%.

I don’t need to surf the web, for sites on the current inflation rate.

All I have to do is go grocery shopping, or, fill up my, diesel, F-250, to know the inflation rates is much higher than 3%.

A bag of ice is still $2.69 at Food Lion, but instead of weighing 10 lbs, it now weighs 7.

So, would you say the cost of a “bag” of ice hasn’t been inflated, at all?

Or a “bag” of ice costs 30% more?

Anyway, I’m pretty sure the costs of fuel, energy, and groceries, aren’t counted in the inflation equation, to arrive at the numbers our govt. gives us?

20# ice at Twice The Ice has been $2 bucks for the last several years, you’re store owner where you shop is inflating the ice, and you’re getting ripped off.

I filled up 30 gallons diesel in my Duramax Friday, $3.64/gallon

Actually the inflation rate is 2.97%, 4.05% last month and 9.06% last year. Average from 1960-2022 was 3.8%/year

Cool! I filled up Friday, at a Hometown Wal-Mart, for $3.28/gallon.
Most other stations, around here, are between $3.39 and $3.69, for diesel.
Looks like you might be gettin’ ripped off, too?

Looks like all of the ice plants that service stores here have gone to 7 pound bags. I only find 10 pound bags where the store bags their own ice.

$.40 cents? Nah, convenience, not rip off.

Now that high dollar ice ? that’s a rip off. Y’all need a TTI something bad

Agreed! I can’t justify a 14 mile round trip, to the nearest TWI, to save a little change on a bag of ice.

Gotta run. Trying to find a coolant leak on my ol’ 250.

some good C&Ps brother… Go grocery shopping and compair to 3 years ago. that 3 % must be based on last year or some other bogus crap. Food inflation is averaging 11.6% electricity is 13% vehicle inflation is around 12% electronics are around 8%

I’m not sure were they are coming up with the 3% inflation rate. Must be what it’s risen since last month and the base inflation rise rate has not been factored in or some bogus b.s.

Those duramax with all the bells and whistle are what? $85,000? ish

More like three percent per day!

Who bailed them out not long ago? We the taxpayers. Did these other haulers get the special treatment?

A bankruptcy filing would again spotlight the $700 million Covid-19 rescue loan that Yellow received from U.S. taxpayers in 2020. A congressional probe later concluded that the Treasury Department erred in giving the loan on national-security grounds when Yellow didn’t meet the standards for that designation.

Of the $1.3 billion in loans the company has coming due next year, $729 million are from the government, according to Yellow’s latest quarterly report. The company reported about $1.48 billion in total debt at the end of the first quarter against $806 million in assets.

Plenty of other haulers out there, let them fail.

In off topic I can only say that I oppose bailouts and subsidies

Life lesson here, it’s costly when you make a mistake, fail to admit it, refuse to apologize for it just because of vanity

Adios

me to. there were just too many of them in the Obuma years

That makes me laugh a bit. Since this administration it is hard to tell the actual increase in every thing you have to spend money for.

Welcome to the site, Sammy, one main rule is politics can only be discussed in the politics section, meaning party affiliation mainly, which takes a while to qualify for.

Keep posting though, please.

“The slowdown is partly due to a HIGH BASE last year.”" The inflation rate is an ANNUAL rate compared to last years rate. SOOOOOO that makes the number SEEM lower, another trick by the economists to hide high inflation!
