Was down with the family on vac. Fished twice - 3100 block and at Botany Bay Beach. Both trips last 3.5 hrs up to high tide. Fresh cut shrimp on 2/0 circles. Spinning reels in rod holders/cart. One in breakers and one way out. SE wind both days and pretty clean water. Kept 6 nice whiting and a blue each trip. Caught lots of small sharpnose sharks and small whiting. A good dozen or so skates, a few small rays, and the kicker- my son hooked and fought a 36" ray that was a good 5" thick. Ray cut his tail for 40 minutes - up and down the beach, drag screaming, had him sweating. Every time he got close to the sand he would suck down tight to the bottom. Had him on his back once but, not long enough. Finally pulled the hook loose from his lip in 10" of water. Gone to fight again.
Nice fighting Ray… brave men to pull that hook out while the ray was in the water. getting stung by one of those is like a mini heart attack. You should have kept him… skinned his wings, and cut out 1 by 1 inch chunks off the cartlidge for some good fried poor man scallops… just about fools everyone… til next time…

Edisto On My Mind
Skates have some excellent white meat also. Got to be carefull cleaning cause of the spines on the back though.
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.
