Edisto 40 April 6, 2025

Got out for a couple hours in a buddy’s boat. Ocean was calm enough to run his 18 footer to the 40. We found lots of spawning Grunts and the soon to be protected Black Sea Bass. Didn’t get a water temp unfortunately, but its warming up fast. Three other boats joined us, one trolling (for what, we wondered?)

Tally for a couple hours at the 40 was 30 Grunts, 15 BSB and 1 Ringtail. We also hooked a big Shark that broke the line.

On the way back we fished a popular spot off the beach and brought in 2 fat Whiting . Another big Shark took my cut Grunt off the bottom, ran, did a few surface maneuvers, then spit the bait.

Lots of giant Cannonballs floating off the beach.

That’s a report. Back at it ASAP.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like Spades won’t be far behind now

Is the Black Sea bass seriously about to be protected?

@Skeebo

No, the Fishery guys said there was no overfishing of BSB, so the 2025 season remains unchanged.

I think it’s 7 fish a day and 13 inch minimum size

No closed season

Final answer, lol

How many BSB were legal, VD?

On this trip the largest was 12, so none legal.
A few weeks earlier we did catch a half dozen or so that were 13 or larger.
