Edisto 40 May 17

Took a run out to the Edisto 40 yesterday for a few hours before the weather fell apart.

Water temp was 75 degrees. Fished 2 hours on the outgoing, and an hour on the incoming.

The Bulls that were schooled up there last month were gone, replaced by Sharpnose sharks. We caught a dozen in three hours. They must have been feasting on the BSBs, because we only brought in about 15 (normal 80 in same time frame). Blues are still schooling up, and we caught a couple, as well as what was either a blue runner or a small Bonita (12 inches). Pin fish bite was unfortunately strong, and we caught a couple dozen of them, along with the ever present Mr. Grunt.

It was calm for a few hours, then got choppy, so we hit a frequent spot a mile off the beach looking for whiting for about 30 minutes. It doesn’t seem like they are off the beaches in numbers just yet.

Thanks for the report!

And, Welcome Back!!

Sounds like a great day! Thanks for sharing!

Spadefish should be on the 40 soon, did you by chance see any jellyballs?

Thanks for the report

I’ve been seegin a handful of jellyballs on the beach at Edisto (800 block) the past 3 weekends…I’d imagine they are here in good numbers.

Ive been seeing plenty of jelly balls off the beach and out to the 30 foot line, but not at the 40 yet.

Also, the coy tarpon are back doing their circling the boat routine at the 40. They werent interested in a live pinfish or frozen shrimp yesterday

May not have been entirely what you hoped for but still sounds like a pretty good day.
