Edisto 40 Oct 13

Saw the weather report, and despite getting in from Nashville late the night before, I had no choice but to take the boat out looking for Redfish.

Stopped at the local nearshore reef and found a surprising number of BSBs. Ran to the 40 and set up in my usual spot. Water temp had dropped to 70, which was 9 degrees cooler than the prior week.

The first couple hours were the usual assortment; Red Snapper, Grunts, Pinfish, Ringtails, keeper BSBs (15 inches) plus a couple of larger juvenile Hammerheads.

We decided to send live and cut Pinfish to the bottom, as we had drifted a bit off the structure. This produced our first Bull Redfish of the season; 39, 40 and 41. These guys were studs, and were at least 35 lbs each. Happy to say all safely released.

Wind and waves chased us off a hot bite, but its good to know that these larger Redfish have started to come in from deeper waters.

Friend mentioned he couldn’t make the trip today because he had to attend Church. I reminded him that this beautiful place is Church, too. I know I give thanks every time Im out on the water in Edisto.

Nice.

Those red drum were almost certainly female, and upwards of 25 to 30 years old. Maybe as old as 40. Really

Those are level 3 fish, so good on you sir, and thanks for handling those big breaders with care and releasing them like a good steward of the resource should.

Pass it on
