Edisto 40

Made it to the 40 on Sunday after the seas finally died down after 3 days. First time out there so we fished basic squid on the bottom and caught nothing but sharks. My question is how to avoid just catching the sharks and how to try to target BSB, etc. Should I change spots, baits, rig, etc.? PMs are welcome. Thanks guys!

C bass will hit anything that smells/moves in most cases. Sometimes sharks will also. Try using artificial baits such as jigs, spoons, etc. for c bass and it often cuts down on the sharks’ interest. On the other hand, if sharks are truly thick they will cut off artificials and even bite and cut leads off your rigs.
If the first c bass you catch are small or you catch sharks constantly, you should move because the more aggressive fish, on a spot bite first. If you are patient enough, there are definately other fish down there, but with C bass the larger ones are most aggressive normally. They are not like other species where the larger fish eat/bite less often than the smaller growing fish. If good sized c bass are on a spot they normally will beat out sharks for your baits.

Try the smaller stuff on the reefs that doesn’t get fished as much.

I agree with Phin, but if notice a consistent shark bite make sure your still on good bottom. Shark bites come alot when you drift of thee good bottom. good luck.

was out there a week ago and we had a consistent BSB bite. Like Hakuna said, were you over good structure? Most of our BSB were undersize. We did catch an estimated 100+ lb nurse shark out there, very cool.
Did you see any cudas? We caught a few on inshore gear… what a blast!
