Saltwater Surf / Pier Fishing

Had the day off today, me and a friend tried to kill a bird this morning but that didn’t happen. Decided to hit the surf this evening, my son wanted to go too. We got to beach around 4pm, tide was low. Wind was whipping pretty strong, the sand was stinging our legs. Luckily it slowly died down the later it got. We got a few bites then a hook up on a decent sharpnose, which i kept for the grill.

For the next couple hours was pretty slow, except for a few whiting, bluefish, and horseshoe crabs my friend was catching with shrimp. Just before sunset I see my rod bounce so I grabbed it and handed it off to my son. I could tell there was something decent on.

Son did a good job reeling in this nice black tip. That was all we got on cut bait, used whiting and bluefish.

i’m lucky he was nearby. he spent most of the afternoon trying to save all the jellyfish along the beach by throwing them back into the water…
