Edisto...August 9th - 16th...Advice Needed.

For the 3rd year in a row, I will be visiting Edisto with family, all of which golf, rather than fish. In the past, I have fished on the beach, catching only small sharks, rays and little whiting. This year, I’ve rented a boat for the week and have the options of fishing offshore or inshore. Does anybody have any advice for the week of August 9th through the 16th? Anything special that will be “running” at that time that I should key in on. I would love to find some fish that would really give my son a battle. Thanks for any and all help. Please advise me on equiptment to bring, bait, jigging, trolling, locations, etc. I very much appreciate any help you may be able to offer. Thanks…Guppy

guppy, Give me a call, and I’ll be glad to pass on what I can. Bob

Guppy,
What size boat have you rented and do you know the waters off Edisto?
Let me know and I can provide you more info.

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Guppy, not trying to tell you what to do, but - for safety reasons - I’d probably think twice about heading offshore in a rented boat.

Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…

Appreciate the advice Edisto9871. I feel very confident in the boat. It has a motor, just gone through completely and tuned, all the safety equiptment, Sea Tow membership, etc. It’s from a private party and not a rental place, so I think it will be much more dependable. It also has depthfinders and a GPS with reefs and such already marked. I will fish inshore most days, but when the weather is perfect, I would like to head out offshore and try things out…any advice, inshore or out, would be very, very much appreciated. Thanks all, I love your state! Can’t wait to deer hunt it one year.

Here’s a link to a map showing the location of the artificial reefs off of Edisto (and the rest of the state, for that matter). The Edisto 40 is about 8 miles out I think, and the Edisto 60 is about 16 miles out. I could be off on the distances.
