Edisto Beach Ideas

It has been a minute since posting. We are in Edisto Beach this week May 2-10. Looking for any ideas for inshore opportunities. More familiar with Charleston, so I thought I would ask. Not looking for any secrete holes just some general information of baits, structures, and etc around the area. We are docked at Edisto Marina. Thank you in advance.

The oxbow in Scott Creek usually holds fish, lots of wood structure against the bank and the creek center is hard shell bottom. Plus you can usually get out of the wind there.

Back in Big Bay creek, after the docks, fish the grass lines and feeder water on a falling tide.

Go north over to Fenwick cut, lots of opportunities on both sides of cut

Trailer to Steamboat landing and fish Russel creek, and across the North Edisto fish the flats where the Wadlamah comes in. But really if I were going to Steamboat I’d just concentrate on Russel Creek, it has everything.

Whiting should be all over the flats around the bouys out front by now.

I always found fishing the North Edisto and it’s creeks were more productive than the South side. Less pressure, no golf course/residential runoff, better structure, more tidal flush, etc.

Hope that helps

That ought to keep you busy

Thank you very much EF1. I truly appreciate this guidance. I will keep you posted as to our success.

Number one for breakfast is SeaCow. Whaleys (seems to be local hangout) always good food and adult beverages if you so choose. Love the fish tacos at McConkeys and onion rings. The food truck at Flowers seafood on the way in is fantastic (I hear owned by the same people as the waterfront. Great food at better prices). These are the must stops for us when we visit a couple of times a year. Honorable mention (we had a good experience last year when we visited first time there) is Presley’s. Enjoy Gods work and your family. I am putting out mud minnow trap and working on some fiddler crabs if you need anything.

For cool check out the history behind Botany Bay. I had a local share with me several years back.

For several years after Hurricane Matthew destroyed Dataw Marina, I went to Edisto Marina for fuel. It was the closest place to me at least headed to/from the ocean.

You can use the ICW to get over to St. Helena sound. A bit of a run but Combahee River, Otter Island, Ashe Island and Hutchinson Island all have places to get out of the wind and fish near creek outlets or in some of the larger creeks. The east bank of the Combahee near the ICW has some great spots. For whatever reason, falling tide has been best for me as EF mentioned also.

Going outside from Edisto to St. Helena sound is not a good idea in my experience. Chart is worthless, sand moves around. One terrifying run on a plane in two feet of water where the chart said twelve feet taught me that lesson.

VegasDave recently posted on catching whiting in St. Helena near the channel markets. Normally, plenty of whiting around now. Sharks around too if you are into that. Combahee Banks good spot for sharks.

Don’t do this anymore but used to catch Spanish in St. Helena trolling this time of year on days too windy to go out. The channel is plenty deep. Used a #1 planer and a drone or Clark spoon on thirty feet of 40 lb fluoro.
