Edisto Beach SP 9/5 & 9/6

We brought our camper to Edisto Beach SP for Labor Day weekend and got to hit the surf a few times over the weekend. Got up early on Saturday to watch the sunrise and we were not disappointed.

Saturday was the better fishing day of the two. My son is usually the bait catcher, but he’s off at college so I was left to using store bought shrimp, which we put on small #6 hooks. Gave that rod to my wife while I was rigging up other rods, and she quickly caught some whiting. Relationship Goal - a wife that catches bait is a keeper.

We chunked up the whiting and put it out on some of the bigger rods. As most of you have experienced, it was interesting how no matter how far away from the crowds we setup, sooner or later groups and families would all park themselves right next to us and swim within 30-50’ of our lines. I would NEVER setup right next to swimmers, but it seems ok to do it the other way around. My buddy and I were looking at each other in disbelief and we joked that it would be a great time to pull in a shark. Well, a few minutes later off goes the baitfeeder reel and his wife pulled in the shark. Nothing too big - it was a 3 1/2 - 4’ lemon I believe, but that was big enough to keep them all from going back in the water. We all got a chuckle out of that. If only they knew what they were swimming with on a regular basis.

I had hoped that we’d pull in a red, trout, black drum or a flounder, but it didn’t work out. I was thankful for what we did catch because there were several other people fishing and I didn’t see them catching anything. Overall, Saturday we caught a bunch of whiting, the shark and two rays. Sun

SCaveng thats a beautiful sunset, was nice that you got back to us as you said you would, glad to see you had a good weekend and caught a few with your buddies, nice shark, nice weekend, cant ask for much better, mission accomplished!

That looks like a pretty solid black nose. Never caught one before this year but have got two this summer.
Looks like a great trip and report

If that’s 4’, then you’re 7 feet tall. hahahaha.

No worries. I don’t get too wrapped up in weights and measurements. All I know is that it was big enough to make the swimmers say “wait… that was out there?” but not too big to handle and let the nearby kids on the beach come to check it out.
