Edisto Beach Surf fishing

Me and a few friends are taking some girls surf fishing on Edisto Beach the weekend of July 30th. I do a lot of surf fishing in the Beaufort area, but I’ve heard the surf fishing on Edisto was really good (never been). I’ve heard to fish near the mouth of the St. Helena sound on the beach for the best action. Anyone have any tips, spots, baits, or any useful information that could be of use? I plan on fishing live bait (shrimp, mullet, mudminnows, etc) right near the breakers for drum or pompano, or going for sharks if we get desperate. What would be biting around this time? on what baits? in what spots or zone in the surf? Any information would be helpful being that I’ve never fished here before. I don’t want to look like an asshole and have a lonely night

3100 block access - straight out. 1.5hr either side of low tide. A channel cuts close by the beach there. At low you can hit the bar on the other side. A good spot. Once tide gets going in good you can forget it there. It rips!!! 6oz won’t stay put then. Fished there over the week of the 4th. Whiting and blues mostly. A few sharks. I have got on the pomps there and black drum before.

If you want to go to a cool spot at high tide - go to Botany Bay -front beach. Nice! Drops off faster up that way. Have had some good trips up there and bigger variety.

Thanks for the info. Ever have any luck with redfish on the surf?

Get a puppy every once in a while. Never many at all. Most all reds I have caught were in the creeks/inlets from a boat. Then I get more keeper trout and flounder than reds there still. Surf by numbers: whiting, blues, sharks, croakers and pomps. Trout-Flounder-BlkDrum-RedDrum there are a surprise bonus to me.

Jeremy Inlet if you don’t mind 20-30 minute walk, or Frampton Inlet on Botany for a shorter walk. You’ll catch more and better fish here than anywhere else on Edisto Beach. Live muds or fingers for flounder, cut shrimp for everything else-- pick up some china backs on the walk if you go to Jeremy, you’ll be surprised what will bite them in the surf, hope this helps.

You can’t catch fish on a dry line

whats is a china back?

fiddler crabs

So howd the fishin’ go?

It went well! We had all of our luck at Botany Bay. Caught 2 slot reds, and 2 trout from the surf. I thought that was pretty strange. We also caught a lot of whiting, bluefish, and had some big ones break off at high tide (not sure what it was). Can’t wait to go back.
