Edisto beach this morning.

Did some surf fishing this morning at the state park. The wife caught a small stingray which I cut up for shark bait. Sent a piece of it out as far I as could cast it with my 12’ spinning rod loaded with 25 lb test mono. It didn’t take but a few minutes before the rod doubled over. The wife got the rod while I strapped on a fighting belt for her. It took her about 10 minutes to land it. I’m kind of new to surf fishing for sharks ( trying to catch them on purpose that is )and have no idea what kind it was. It was 48" FL. We also saw a couple Spinners leap clear of the water too. Only caught 1 Whitting which we we’re intending to use for bait for the sharks, pretty slow day.

Any idea what kind it is?

If the dorsal starts over the pectoral, Sandbar. If the dorsal starts behind the pectoral, Dusky. With the absense of black on the dorsal, and rig on the back not a Spinner. Looks more like and Sandbar. Either way hope it swam away strong. Nice catch!

“If it were catching, Everyone would be good at it.”

Yeah, been told by a couple people that it is a Sandbar. After looking on line at different types of Sharks it was easy to figure out what it was. I only keep them out of the water long enough to take a couple of pictures, and this guy had plenty of fight left in him as I was releasing him.
