Edisto Fishing Club's Redfish Tournament results

The Edisto Fishing Club held it’s Redfish Tournament Saturday, October 11. We all met down at the Edisto Marina at 7am for what ended up to be a very nice day, except for the weather.

It was early, windy and looking wet, however 9 boats made it out to the tournament and headed off to catch some fish. The bit was good early, then slowed, but seemed to turn back on just about an hour before the weigh in.

It was a combined weight for 3 Red’s in the slot. Five teams weighed in at 3:30 and here are the results:

1st Place - Ron Davis and his son, Caleb - 15.11 lbs
2nd Place - Edisto Fisher and William Hackett - 11.3 lbs.
3rd Place - Jack Hoy and Lee Salsbury - 10.13 lbs.
4th Place - Darrin Moore and Patrick Brown - 9.10 lbs.
5th Place - Bruce Smith and Dale Hall - 3.9 lbs.

Top three places took home some beautiful trophies which were donated by Buck’s Pizza and the 1st place team also won the $100.00 prize.

After the weigh in we all did what most fishermen do. We cooked Beaufort Stew and sat around the docks telling stories and listened to our Gamecocks win a big one in Kentucky.

All the fish were donated to the club, which will be used at our next meeting.

Again, it was a lot of fun. We had a great showing with the weather the way it was, and I genuinely appreciate everyone’s help.

I’d also like to recognized Edisto Marina for their support in this, Dan put up with all of us in and out the store and we certainly appreciated it. I’d like to recognized Charles Hastey for coming out at 7am to give the blessing before we started the tournament. That was very nice of him to come out so early.

If anyone has some pictures of the event that they want to share, please post them here, but also please send them to Edistofishingclub@gmail.com

Thanks again, look forward to out next tournament.

Good report. Post some pictures, I would like to see how many spot tails it takes to cover EF’s face. Family obligations kept me from entering, but I did deer hunt Sat. morning getting a doe before leaving town.

Although I couldn’t fish the tournament (I had a charter), I did attend the weigh in. Good crowd, great people, and what impressed me the most was the fishing information so freely shared. I’d say the Edisto Fishing Club is off to a great start. Congrats on the win Caleb and Ron Davis. And what a mess of fish for the next meeting’s fish fry! Bob

I had a great time, and enjoyed the fellowship with everyone.

Awesome pics!! The food looked as good as it tasted too. When you get a chance, please forward those pics to me via email. I would like to have them for our records.

Can’t wait until the next tournament!

Is that tony mizzell giving the thumbs up??

FISHIN’ MISSION

First of all, I’d like to say congratulations to the winner of this tournament, Ron Davis and Caleb Davis. That’s great to see.

Second, I’d like to thank the good people of the Edisto Fishing Club for all those dead redfish laying all over the dock. It truly is a beautiful thing. It makes my heart smile…reelly.

Edisto Fisher, I told you that I’d give you $50 if you won the tournament. You came in the First Loser, not the tournament winner.

However, if you’d be kind enough to send me your address, I’d be glad to send you a check for your self proclaimed “morale” victory.

23Sailfish, the comment regarding the dead fish comes across as if it bothers you we killed fish. As I recall it, I think we ended up with 23 total fish. For a tournament that had 18 people fishing, I don’t think that’s too bad. Maybe it is too many, if it is…then we know next time. We had already talked about reducing the number of fish to weigh in if too many boats showed up, however we didn’t feel we had too many boats. Anyway, the fish were cleaned and will be the main dish for our next meeting…what about the shrimp though? We had 20 lbs of shrimp…

Anyway, it was a good tournament and we all enjoyed it. Next time, you need to come on down to Edisto and join in the fun.

Thanks for reading about our tournament.

Daren you going to be at the game on sat?

At this point, I’m planning on being there… I think have a 2 extra tickets if anyone is interested.

Don't you worry Ricky, I've already contacted our home PETA office. And the EFC should expect a Cease And Desist notice concerning their murderous practices soon enough...

No, no, no…it doesn’t bother me at all. I love fishing. I love fish. I love to eat fish. I love to eat the fish that I catch. There are a ton of people in our local society and here on CF that will hate all those dead fish laying on the dock. I happen to appreciate it for the simple fact that it will bother those that are ignorant on the subject. I say congrats to everyone involved and I mean it. The father/son team that won the tournament is awesome! I really think that’s great. That’s the future of our sport that we love so much…the kids. Kudos to all involved.

Yeah, It’s Mizzell

and for the record, I think I’m going to start an annual trash fish tournament for the club. I had two bites all day and caught the biggest sting ray I’ve ever seen in my life and a 3’ shark. Between getting those two in on the light tackle it burned about 45 minutes of my fishing time.

I do want to say one thing about Edisto. There is no finer place in the world. My wife and I were down at our condo for our anniversary. Go to put the boat in Friday morning at daylight and the steering is froze because I hadn’t used the boat in 6 months. Start trying to loosen the steering and a day later find out that I broke the helm and the steering cable. With that being said spent all day Friday having people look at my boat and going back and forth to Charleston to get parts. Ended up getting a new steering helm but not the cable. To make a long story short didn’t have a boat to fish in the tournament.

I had 3 people offer me their boats to fish on Saturday morning. That is what I’m talking about that there is no finer place than Edisto. 2 of the 3 people had never met me before until that Friday. Do you think this would have happened in Hilton Head?, Florida?, New Jersey?

Heck No! Special thanks to Dan at the Marina! Thank You! Captain Barry Falin for looking at my steering and not wanting to charge me,which I know I didn’t pay him enough and also to Tinker Nesbitt for taking time to look at late in the day and would have been able to fix it had my cable not been ruined.

Anyway, I was able to get out on the water and catch a buzz, then come back in and watch the Gamecocks beat Kentucky (barely I might add) while everyone else braved the weather and weighed in some fish. We enjoyed the weekend and most importantly to meet some new friends through the club. The stew and the fellowship was awesome and I look forward to future events. As long as I’m in the club no one else has to worry about coming in last place unless we start the trashfish tournament - I think I can compete in that one.

we know barry is a failure but his last name is Fontaine j/k.

you cant the good people of edisto
