Edisto-help!

The family is headed down for spring break to Edisto Beach for a week. Think spring break is second week of April this year for us. I have a Carolina Skiff and was wondering if some of you guys could help out with some much needed info. Is there a boat ramp at Edisto Beach? Appears to be a marina on the south end. Do they have a ramp and do they charge to launch? I’ve never fished the area before, but have fished inshore from Hatteras to the Florida Keys sp familiar with inshore fishing and love it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, such as areas to avoid, what baits work well that time of year, must see places, etc. My 6 year old son fishes with me most of the time and he loves going to new places. Is the Monkey Island accessible from Edisto? He would get a huge kick out of that. Thanks for the help!

Edisto Marina has a launch, its $10 for in/out. Its pretty tight so make sure you are good at backing in your boat! You can also use Live Oak landing on the island but not too far away. It also has a charge if you are not a member of the parks. Give Bob Sanders a call for tips or better yet a charter. www.fishingwithbob.com
Have fun, I’m jealous!

"Anyone know a good orthodontist?

there are 4 landings on the island.
big oak and the marina are on a creek leading to the south edisto river, st. helena sound, beaufort and the ocean.
steamboat leads you to the north edisto which gives access to wadmalaw sound, charleston, bohicket river and the ocean.
botany bay gives access to frampton inlet and the ocean.
monkey island is named morgan island and is easily reached via st.helena sound.
best money spent is to hire a guide for the first day so you can see whats going on with the fishery at that time.

Ditto to what these guys said. Heard nothing but good things about the few guides around Edisto–all good folks. As the water warms, April and May are some of the best times to catch sharks right out in the mouth of the South Edisto. A stout bottom rig and some fresh cut or live mullet, menhaden, or mackeral will do it. Whiting usually start hitting good too.

Another good landing is on the IWC as soon as you get on the island on the right. There are lots of good fishing and crabbing areas just a small boat ride away. You can also get access to the North and South Edisto Rivers from this landing and even see some alligators on “Alligator Alley”. This landing is FREE.

“Good instincts usually tell you what to do long before your head has figured it out.”

Use the search feature on this site and type in monkey island under the edisto forum. I typedd some detailed directions on how to get there a few months back.

Hey guys, thanks! I appreciate the info. Looks like my wife has decided on Edisto, so we’ll be heading down in the spring. I’m really looking forward to it. We’ll be down for a week. I post here just before we come down, maybe I could buy you guys a beer for the info! Thanks again!

Closest landing to Monkey Is is Eddings Point access over in St Helena off Hwy 21 out of B’fort. Not too bad out of Bennetts Pt but, a good ride from Edisto Beach.
