My buddy and I will heading to Edisto later this month for a shrimping weekend. I have a New to me Sea Hunt 21 ft. bay boat that I am looking to put some hours on as well. What type of fishing should we be doing this time of year? I am a newbie to salt water and have a lot to learn. Is the Edisto 40 any good this time of year? If so what is out there? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not BourbonDawg. Don’t know who that is.
The bottom fishing is great in the winter! But the law wont let you keep anything! With the price of gas now it is sensless to go off shore unless the bluefin show up
Thanks for the reply boatpoor. I hadn’t looked at season restrictions. I certainly won’t make that run knowing i will have to come back empty handed.
The inshore fishing is at its best that time of the year. Use live shrimp 1-2’under a rattle cork around structure on flats as close to the grass as you can get and in holes in the grass. Trout will be found 10 to 20’ from the grass and on points.

Thanks for the reply oristorob. Is an ingoing or outgoing tide better for inshore fishing?
Pick an area from a hotspots map and go at or before low tide to look for fish and structure. Spotails will will be holding and feeding in very shallow water and will bite all the way up to high tide and back to low. Follow the water to and into the edge of the grass as the tide rises. Trout will be best at mid-tide both rising and falling. If you see several boats fishing an area, don’t crowd them but fish close enough to see if any are catching fish and beat them to that spot the next day.
