Edisto Island, SC – Noted South Carolina naturalists will present eco-adventures on land and water for Edisto Island Open Land Trust’s annual Back to Nature Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17, 2009. Among the locations will be EIOLT-preserved properties that are not otherwise open to the public.
Outings will include a creek fishing seminar with Bob Sanders, owner of Edisto Inshore Charters and host of “Fishing with Bob.” Other water-based outings include “A Shrimp Boat Experience,” “ACE Basin by Boat” and dolphin-watching via kayak. Other sessions will focus on birding, nature photography, Botany Bay natural and cultural history, coastal gardening, paint your own gourd birdhouse, the ABCs of camping, beachcombing for kids, a visit to the Edisto Island Serpentarium, geocaching and other topics. Locations will range from Edisto and Eddingsville beaches to Seabrook House/Dodge Plantation.
The second day of the Back to Nature Celebration will feature Dr. Patrick McMillan of SCETV’s award-winning “Expeditions with Patrick McMillan.” He will serve as keynoter for EIOLT’s Legacy Live Oak Dedication and Conservation Celebration on May 17. The title of his talk will be “Extinction is Forever: Save Habitat.” To be held at 3 p.m. at Indigo Farms, the free public event will recognize honorees of EIOLT’s Legacy Live Oak Program and will celebrate the 15,500 acres now preserved on Edisto.

ATAylor, I’ll be talking about the technique with the Trout Trick as a part of the seminar. Not to let all of the cat out of the bag, it is my understanding we will also be doing some actual fishing. Bob

Thanks, we’d love to hear any tips you have. I’ve been anchored to the dock for 10 years and this is really the first season I’ve got a boat to go where I want. My dad had a small 14’ pontoon for a few years but I didn’t take it out much because I didn’t feel very safe in anything but calm conditions.

This fall my wife and I purchased a used Carolina Skiff 238 Semi-V and we’ve really enjoyed the freedom to explore and drop lines, but we just don’t have the knowledge to target fish or do much other than bottom fish.

We are going to hang out and watch the weigh in for the tournament too. Should be a fun weekend!
