I you are not use to the ramp I would put in and take out on an incomeing as not to have boat pulled into dock by the quick current!
I was able to get my boat loaded at low tide at the state landing but it was close. The trailer frame almost touched the concrete where the transition happens on the ramp…if you know what I mean. It would be near impossible to load by myself since I cannot float onto the trailer then reach over the bow and crank her up.
Does anyone here know what it costs to go to the marina and put in? Do I have to get an annual pass or something? I do not see me needing it much, just when I need to run that side of the island. That state landing has trouble written all over it.

MattR - I have not used the marina ramp since last summer but it was $10 then. Check it out closely before you try with the boat. I can’t make the turn at the end going forward so I always back it down the drive. It’s about a 30-35 degree angle right at the ramp and very narrow so be careful. Also, many times, I have found a ice truck or construction truck or some random idiot parked in there making it almost impossible to get in. I usually send in a ‘scout’ while I drive around the block. I just bought a lot in Beckett Plantation so maybe we can hook up after I get down there in a year or two.
I have always used Live Oak as well and have never had an issue (except with the current) but maybe I have just been lucky. If you haven’t tried Steamboat yet it has fewer issues except parking on weekends. Much better now than it was.
Good luck!

It was 10 bucks in October, and its real tight back there. I barely have room to do a three point turn around with my quad cab dodge and my 18’ boat. And thats if there aren’t any cars parked down there. You could back all the way down, but you need someone to spot for you going around the corner.

I have a 2300 Key West that I’m taking to Edisto next weekend…Were is the best place to put in? I’ve put in smaller boats at the marina and know it can be difficult…The only other landing I’m half way know is the state park. Any suggestions? Can I fit that boat down at the marina?
I put my 22’ in there at the marina all the time. I back it down and 90% of the time i’m putting it in myself while the wife and kids are getting ready, etc. Also help friends put boats in there much larger than mine all the time. You shouldn’t have a problem with a 23’.
Also at the state park if you have the family with you they charge per person. Therefore if there is one or two people maybe cheaper to put in at state park, if a family of four, you come out better at marina for $10 and you also are supporting a private business.
Putting in at Edisto to me depends on where on the island you want to be.
If you want to put it and be down on the island, then I’d put in at the marina. Yes it is tight, but I’ve put in a 10’ wide boat many times. The biggest obstacle there is an incoming tide that is moving strong. It is pretty shallow, and you could get into some trouble with the pilings if you weren’t paying attention.
By far the best ramp on the island is at Dawhoo. It is on the opposite side of the island and much further inshore, but it is a breeze to load at if you know what you’re doing.
Steamboat is ok, but it can get crowded really fast. I just don’t really like it personally.
Live Oak is terrible. Whatever idiot decided to “Rehab” the ramp without making is longer and/or sloped at the end, should be shot. It is truly unusable in anything over 23-24’ at low tide. Not to mention the per person fee is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.
I always use Dawhoo also. It’s just much easier for me. I don’t mind the boat ride to get where I want to go.

I’ve heard it might not be good to leave your vehicle there! Anyone else heard this?
Dawhoo is ok to leave your ride. We have fished and shrimped out of there many times with no problems. There is usually a pretty good crowd around and plenty of people in / out. Leaving it like all night or for an extended time may be different? You hear of some issues now and then from most any landing now days. Edisto overall is pretty safe - just use common since and not leave something enticing sitting out in plain sight. The marina is the safest IMO.

I put a 24 footer in at the marina several time and never had a problem regardless of which tide. Steamboat is an easy ramp also no matter tide. Live oak is sob and have seen some stuff get messed up there. This year I won’t have to worry. I’m bringing the canoe and leaving the bohemoth at home.

Live Oak requires a little skill and alot of common sense,I use it every time I go to Edisto with a 24 footer…
The fees at Live Oak are ridiculous, but you can get an annual pass at the state park office just a little further down 174 on the right. It used to be $50 but last year they raised it to $75. When I bought mine I said “WOW, a 50% increase???”. The lady said, “No, 25%”. I just shook my head and opened my wallet…

WOW Really? Was probably a volunteer. Nah on second thought it could have been a State employee.
No joke! I started to open my mouth, then just smirked. Figured it was pointless LOL

I bough a Palmetto Pass yesterday at Billy Dreir Island Park for $37 and it is good for Edisto! That included the old man discount!
