Edisto Marina

FYI

Edisto Marina is open, but the ramp and fuel pumps are closed while they work on the docks. They advised me the work will be going on for a few more weeks. We put in at the state park.

Thanks

Use extreme caution at the state park during low tide. Depending on the shape of your trailer and obviously the size of your boat, it’s become a good place to incur trailer damage, especially when taking out due to a STEEP drop-off.

I will have to check this out. Does the ramp go so far then cut off? I have not used the ramp there yet but plan in it soon, maybe this weekend.

current rips through there too, dead high is the best time to use it if possible IMO

End of the ramp is indicated on the walkway. Do not go past that point!
fmb3 is correct about the currents.

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Dang near lost my boat at that ramp be carefull on an out going, will pull you into and under the dock!

Thanks for the heads up. I used to put in at wappoo cut a lot during shrimp season. Just had to juice her up and make sure you stabbed it right the first time.

I am getting anxious to hit the 40 and 60, even if its a bsb fest. Good times await.

Matt, put in at Steamboat, closer and better ramp!

I hear the ramp is now open. Not sure about the fuel pumps.

yeah, that dock is close for a strong outgoing no doubt, I like steamboat landing myself, never had an issue but everytime I stay at edisto if I tell a local Im fishing out of there I get horror stories about stolen trailers or car batteries or something, maybe they just trying to scare me away from thier honey holes?

Live Oak is probably one of the most difficult ramps to get into or out of due to the very strong currents. If you can do it there, you can do it anywhere. I’ve witnessed a few horror stories and near divorces there and tried to offer assistance. Here is where people really bust their equip…when they try to come in, at speed, trying to time their boat getting to the trailer. Rarely does someone do this successfully. Often it breaks the hell out of a boat or trailer or both. Here is what I do when the current is really honking: Come in from down current idling slowly against the current, perpendicular to the trailer. Once my nose gets past the down-current trailer guide, I cut the wheel and gently nose into the trailer, then gun it just a bit to get up on the bunks. It’s fool proof and won’t break your stuff. Who knows, I might save a marriage with that advice

Wow, so glad I saw this post. Staying on Edisto for the next week and planned on using the marina ramp. I have a gheenoe and probably would have lost the bot under dock if the tide was going out. Is the next best ramp Steamboat?

I’m taking my wife next time!!!

Due to the recent work done at Steamboat on lengthening the fishing pier, the ramps are becoming more silted-in each week. I used to only have to worry about taking out during a negative tide. Now, any low tide is a pain. Also, on a strong outgoing, it’s going to be fun watching the summer yahoos launch and trailer-on around that fishing pier. The “improvements” have made it nicer for shore fishers but MUCH worse for boaters.

I’m sorry to hear that… I still haven’t been to Steamboat since the “renovation” but it was difficult before trying to trailer the boat with all the crab lines out.

Don’t understand why the dock people have to fish and crab on the ramp side! They wont move when you try to dock and get huffy when you run over there stuff! One time I almost had to call the law to have the swimmers removed so I could drive my boat on the Tra. Glad I don’t have to use it every day!

I am going to try and put in at the state park landing this weekend. I took the golf cart there the other day at low tide and that ramp is awfully short. I don’t think there would be enough water to load the boat with the back tires at the edge. I also saw where someone hit the pier and busted some boards.

It will be the first trip of the season. It seems like every weekend here lately has been bad. I want to cruise around some and see how the inlet area is. It has to be way better than trying to run out the Stono like I used to. I am looking forward to hitting the reefs and look for some spades.
