Loaded the live well with shrimp and finger mullet between 6am-7am. First three spots we had clear water, but picked up only one short redfish on finger mullet under a cork. Fourth spot near Morgan Island was loaded with trout, red and black drum. We were using live shrimp on the bottom around structure. After a couple hours of fun with two eight year olds and their dads, we decide to try the Rocks off Edisto Beach for a bull red. We landed two bulls over twenty pounds each using fresh cut shad on the bottom. Lot of firsts today! Each young boy landed their first bull drum with the help of their dads. Priceless!!! Love fishing this time of year.

My first trip out there this year. NE wind has been keeping me inshore, but today was very nice around noon. Only fished for an hour and called it a day after two nice fish. Those boys were all excited! Lots of fun and memories made for a lifetime.

Mickey Johns from Bamberg. He is my cousin. I’ve been catching a few hickory shad in the net at the Dawhoo Landing last few weeks casting for bait. These shad are about the size of my hand. Excellent cut bait for bull reds.
