4KI reef bottom fishing structure and live bottoms in 40’-50’ water. Bite was strong. Over 80 black bass in three hours. Lots of fun for four out of six clients. Two of them lost their breakfast: but returned to catch a few nice ones at the end of the trip. Spanish Mackerel were thin today with no connections after a few attempts at some small schools around the NE Nearshore Reef.

Buddy were any of the BSB keepers? My son and I wore them out 2 weeks ago there but they were all short. 8-10" being about the biggest.
Same question…how many keepers do you generally get out of 80 landed?
Is 4KI significantly better than Edisto 40 for BSB keepers?
Twenty plus keepers: all were 13”-14”, the rest were dinks. 4KI produces bigger bass for me than Edisto 40. I fish a lot of different drops marking structure and live bottoms for my clients to pick up a variety of fish. I rarely anchor. I drift fish live bottoms, concrete rubble and crushed cars. I generally try to hold the boat directly over large structures. Buck tail jigs tipped with squid or cut bait helps weed out the smaller bites. As I’m drifting and marking structure, live bottoms, I try to pay attention to what is being caught and try to mark the spots with bigger bass. It’s not easy with five lines, heavy seas and wind but usually when I find some nice schools of keeper bass I can mark them. Did well on black bass again today at 4KI. There are plenty keeper bass at 4KI, but you have to work the entire reef because these fish constantly move around. The keepers I caught today were in a different drop than yesterday. I usually lose 10-15 hooks per trip. If it’s not rooty, you’re not gonna catch the big ones. You gotta break there necks and get them out of the structure on the hook set. You gotta move, move, move and fish hard. I don’t anchor and catch the same black bass ten times. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Buddy that makes a lot of sense and certainly much different than how I have been approaching it. I’m certainly guilty of chunking the anchor and going at whatever happens to be under the boat at the moment.
