My dad tells me someone bought it and there is a rumored 1500’ pier planned. Anyone hear anything about this? And one of the Flowers is going to open a new restaurant.
Also why is the city buying Bell Buoy for 7 or 8 million dollars? They don’t even have a plan for it from what I’m told. How are they going to make that money back. The city should have bought the pier and rebuilt it, they could get some revenue out of that.
The Waterfront resturant is moving to the Pavilion and should be open in a month or two after they remodel the interior. The new owners want to build a pier but it might not happen. Thats still up in the air and i think they are more concerned with getting the remodeling finished asap with the season being so close. As for the town buying Bell Bouy for so much. It looked like there might be a company that allready has a couple of gambling boats working in the sountheast buying Bell Bouy. I have herd a couple of ideas of what they might do with it but i dont know if anything is set in stone.
Grandson there at Bell Bouys told me that the town was going to keep it open as a seafood place…maybe lease the property out or something. And like Edisto said, I was told the town bought the property to keep the gambling boat company from trying to get their hands on it. Mr. Bell was gonna’ sell it to whomever gave him the most, Gambling boat or not.
Interesting!
Great food at the Waterfront. Hope the pier happens down the road. I still like to go to Bell Bouy. They get most of seafood off boats out of Chas. Killer casserolls too!
I am not going to comment on the origin of Bell Bouy’s shrimp, but I do know that the only shrimp boat there is dry and low tide and bilging like a mo fo. I also know that Edisto Seafood has Sarah Jane and the Leo tied up and waiting for the season. I’d go with Edisto Seafood personally, but that is just because I work there and I know exactly where the shrimp come from, Edisto!
Edistofisher, not trying to knock Flowers, just telling you what I know. I absolutely know Edisto Seafood is selling local shrimp because I headed them last fall, but them in 25 lb buckets took them to the freezer, pulled them out, thawed them and sold them. They are as fresh and local as they get this time of year. As to the Leo and Sarah Jane, Leo is fishing in Florida and as far as I know Captain Gary is bringing her back up for the season. Last weekend Capt. Bill was on the Sarah Jane painting and wrenching to get ready for May. As for boats not being able to cover expenses, Mr Bobby’s boats do ok when they get into the shrimp. I think the big problem is with boats that sell to wholesalers like in Rockville. They only make like a quarter a pound. At Edisto Seafood, we buy it off the boats, process it and sell it right in our shop, cutting out the middle man. This makes it so we can pay our boats much better than wholesalers.
Sorry for the rant.
How about that peir, 1500’, maybe we can get some dolphin off it when the water warms up?
Spoke with Scott this past weekend at the Waterfront. As soon as possibe, the Pavilion Restuarant will open along with an Arcade and the Waterfront will be closing. He is not doing both. What about his shrimp boat?? By the way, the prime rib was excellent!!
I frequented BellBouy & Flowers over the years but stopped in Edisto Seafood this past summer. Just never noticed the place. Small but the selection is on hand. Got shrimp and some nice grouper filets cheeper than what was at Bells. Twice there they were out of what I wanted but it was due in anytime. That’s when I found it was coming from Chas. That’s not a bad thing though. Still SC.
I know Bell Bouys and I know where most of the buildings are on edisto but not sure of all the names…something to do with bad short term memory usually when Im around edislo.
Where is Edisto Seafood, The Waterfront resturant and the Pavilion?
but can you buy one of ma bells pies at those other places?
one of the first things i do is go to bells and fill up my coolers with ice.
their grandson chaps my ass… i can walk in there three times in one day and he treats me as if i have never been there before. i almost quit going there just because of him. he’s very annoying and talks like a freaking yankee. i hate small talk too… and he offers to much of it.
mr. bell and the other old guy are priceless though. i bet i have gotten more than 100 $2 bills from them.

Beerbuzz, Edisto Seafood is on Docksite Road accross from Fairfield Oceanridge Resort entrance. Waterfront is in the next parking lot above WaterSports and Tackle. Pavilion is on the beachfront on the 100 block of Palmetto Blvd. accross from the EZ Shop Gas station.

Your experience at Bells mimics mine to a “t”. That kid always appears out of it to me and it is a bit disconcerting. But old man Bell (who is a mtn. man these days) and the other fella are a bargain. I can and have talked with both for hours. And my children’s piggy banks are stuffed with those 2 dollar bills. Bet we’ve bumped heads in there numerous times.
i have their home phone # in my cell to check up with mrs bell if im within an hours drive to see what pies she may have.
mr bell would tell me more often than not when i was buying stuff, “taxes? we don’t tax fishermen for bait!” as id pay for shrimp, tuna or whatever.
my son too has all of the $2 bills.
one thing ill never forget was one day there was a johnny ohio buying all he could in there, with his girlfriend. he was all “what’s this? is it fresh?” mr bell sold him some salmon, told him it was caught off our coast just the day before.
OK…Edisto seafood is the place thats usually closed when I need bait, Bell Bouys, I dont think ever closes! Waterfront is the place where Ive bought mud minnows before and Ive eaten at restraunt up stairs around there somewhere. I was told that its the same chef at Waterfront as is at Fairfield during the off season. And then the Pavilion…thats Coots! Know where that’s at!
beerbuzz The Waterfront and The Plantation (the restraunt in Fairfield) a compleatly different entities and dont have the same chef. Also edisto seafood is open 7 days a week during the season from 8 or 9 am untill around 5:30 or 6pm sundays they might close a little early. The Pavilion has been closed since late summer and coots has been closed for about 2 years
I would love to have a pier at Edisto. Assuming that the Pavilion owners would control/own it (?) or at least have some finanical interest in it, the pier would be a pretty good money-maker for them - either in paying for use of the pier, or through increased business by the foot traffic on the pier.
Do any of you know when the old pier was destroyed? Was it Hugo? Or before that?
Just tryin’ to learn every bit I can about fishin’…
