Edisto Shrimping

Any ideas on where to start baiting shrimp around Edisto?

Follow the crowd, it won’t be hard to figure out.

ST HELENA SOUND. 5’ TO 3’ OR 7’ TO 5’ Depending on tide, current, wind and water color! Good Luck! Being on the water is a Blessing, catching fish is a bonus! Capt Buddy B. 803-603-2781 www.edistopalmetto.com

Any other place besides the sound?

Lots of people shrimp on the flat right out of the mouth of big bay creek at night. You don’t have to go real far.

I am going to try there around 6 today. I have had my best luck there at night in the past.

Try the right bank of Saint Piere as you pull in up next to grass at high. Run the motor at 1/2 thotle and watch the wake for jumpers!

That is awesome advice right there. Thanks. I will try tomorrow probably. I didnt get to go out tonight but I did blast an 8 point buck, so it wasn’t a total loss.

Shrimp have been running very small on average in the area in both the North and South Edisto rivers.

Matt, glad to hear you put some dear meat in the freezer, but save some room for the bugs! Cant make it down till the first of Oct, save some for me.

You should call me when you are in Edisto. It’s always nice to meet people from here and if it works out, maybe go out shrimping.

I had them dialed in pretty good last year, just not much size to them.

Thanks Matt, be down next week for a day, try to pull my 25’ net at Otter on the top of the tide, have been told there are some keepers there in deeper water! Will PM you as to the day.

Few shrimp and no fish this weekend…

Pulled the net at Otter Yesterday for 5 hrs and only got 3.5 baskets of med to large, stayed with some buddys on Ladys Island, what a trip to Otter at low tide from Harbor River, lot of bars!

That’s what? Ruffly 60lb to a basket? Doesn’t sound like you did too bad. Pulled with a friend a couple of weeks ago and that’s about what we did. Got a couple of BIG tiger shrimp. Also got a bunch of whiting and a couple keeper flounder. My fingertips are just getting over the sorting. I should have used gloves.

this may be too late to matter. We shrimped last week out of store Creek, on the big moon. We were lucky to cover the bottom of the cooler for the most part. tried the sound between mud creek and St Pierre, The current ran so hard we lost several poles. In the past we have done well there. The best place we found to shrimp was in the mouth of St. Pierre. There is an eddy on the right side heading in about 300 yards from the mouth. Put out 3 poles and several bait balls per pole and caught more than expected. bait was scarce and the fishing was slow all week. Crabbing was OK, caught one flounder, and Blues were plentiful in the surf on some days. Anyway we caught enough to feed seven people dinner for a few nights and brought some fish home.
