Edisto Surf Fishing

The family is headed to Edisto the first week of August.

What can I expect from surf fishing near the pier/restaurant?

I usually surf fish for whiting, pompano, drum.

I’ll probably try to walk up to Jerermy’s inlet and try for flounder.

Any suggestions? (I’ll only have a canoe)

Thanks

The last part of june whiting were thick in the surf but the size was rather small, maybe they’ll be bigger when you go. Sharks were also thick in the surf big and small. Use any kind of cut fish for sharks or shrimp for the whiting. We caught one trout in the surf on a live shrimp. I walked to jeremy inlet one morning got a few bites but didnt catch anything. The guy beside me caught a nice flounder. One of the jeremy cay residents said the day before I came two fellas wore the sheeps head out off of the rocks.

Catfish

I would also like a report as I will be at Edisto the second week of August if Hambone will leave some for me!

I’m gonna be there the last week in july through august 3rd as well. Probably am going to do mostly surf fishing and maybe try some inlets. Any other tips/advice would be great. :sunglasses:

The family and I are heading down the last week of July, also. Hope to be hitting the surf early a few days and Late EVERY day with a trip to Jeremy Inlet to let the girls look for shells and teeth. After doing it a few years I can say the TheSkipper is on the money of what to catch. Tackle we are taking is basically medium to medium heavy 7’ spinning outfits with 8-10 lb mainline. Gonna make it fun. Just rigging bait on standard carolina rigs.

Thanks all for the info. I hope to do some crabbing as well. Some of my old true spots seem to have dried up through the years. Anyone with a good spot that a once a year visitor could try?:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going down for a week this Sat. Fresh shrimp on a fishfinder rig way out and a smaller rod in the suds. Whiting is most of what I usually catch but, have picked up some pomps, black drum, blues, and flounder now and then. I take a canoe too. I go to small creeks on way in past Dawho bridge. Also check out Botany Bay Plantation. Canoe/yak throw-in there too and good fishing on the surf. I’ll put in a report when I return. Good luck.
