I am going to Edisto state part this coming May 2015. I have had conversations here about how to catch fish from the surf, but dad is taking his new wife (new mom) with us camping this year. She loves to fish. I would like for one of them to catch something, and I have done no good from the surf. I am not asking for secrets, but advise.
I have two large surf rigs and several small salt rigs. Do I go from the surf or the inlet north of edisto state park.
Do i use shrimp or cut bait.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

May is a good month for fishing the surf. The first groin near the park entrance is a good place to start. I would use both shrimp and cut bait. Should have bites on both. If anything, you could catch some sharks. Sounds like any of the gear you you have will work great. The mouth of Scott Creek is a mile or so hike, if you all are up for it, another good spot as well. On your way to the creek, keep an eye out for any holes, troughs or cuts, could be a good opportunity to stop, take a break, and soak some bait.
Here is my video of what I caught from Editso State Park Beach. Shrimp is a good bait and some cut mullet or whole finger mullet is usually what I use for bait.

State park is a good place. I like the beach in between the groin and the creek. At low tide you can see some mud sticking up. The fish tend to hang a round there too. Fresh cut shrimp on double or triple hook rigs with small circle hooks works for me.
