Edisto to Beaufort

Anyone here made a trip by boat from Edisto marina to downtown area ( maybe some docks to tie up to while we grab lunch)? Made it years ago on a friend’s boat but can’t remember exactly the route. Any advice is appreciated.

Up river and thru ■■■■■■■ Cut into the ICW. Follow all the way to Coosaw. Follow Coosaw to right and comes out in town. Several places with dock parking to eat.

From upper Coosaw, you have to follow the ICW to the left into Brickyard Creek to get to Beaufort.

Noticed a warning on the “coosaw/ ashepoo cut” that says 2 ft water. Is it possible to negotiate the cut thru ?It looks like that is the ICW. Also, how are the cans marked for ICW?

How old is your map? They had a dredge in there a couple of years ago. They keep the ICW deep enough for tugs, big yachts, etc., so I would think no problem. But, I have not been through there in a while.

was looking at the link from Greg and there was a note about it on the map.

OK. I’d just go slow or follow something big through there. Maybe someone who has been through there lately will jump on here.

That was first reported Aug of 2013. No idea if that’s still the case. Check this link.

And this one seems to have more up to date info.

We made the trip several times lately with no problems. If you are unsure of yourself time the trip to go at high tide.

There is a big bar to the right as you enter the Sound traveling toward Beaufort.Don’t be tempted to take the direct route.Follow your channel markers or better yet follow another boat.

I see the waterway guide has an anchorage marker in the creek just North of the “177” marker. That anchorage marker was put there for the benefit of the sandgnats - so they would have something to eat. That place is sandgnat city!

Last August I was on the South Edisto between the Marina and ■■■■■■■ Cut and those big black flies were taking chunks out of me. I would speed up the boat and they would take refuge underneath the bimini top. Everytime I slowed down they were back on me again !

The black flies, the yellowflies, and horseflies are the worst!

The cut between rock creek and coosaw is the shallowest part, on the rock creek side. I had 3 feet at low tide a couple of weeks ago. The other end is not much deeper. As long as you are not at dead low and dont draw a lot of water it is fine.

Took the trip. Was worth every minute. Great scenery and a super lunch at Hemmingway’s. Thanks for the help.

Glad you had a good trip.Next time try the Edisto to Charleston trip.We really enjoy that as well.We usually put in at the Dawhoo Bridge and it makes the trip about the same length as Edisto to Beaufort.

You are right. Went with a friend a few years back from Dolphin cove to Edisto marina. It was cool. I need to do the Edisto / Beaufort trip in the cool fall weather, I think. … should be spectacular.
