Anybody ever make the trip from Edisto up to the jetties in Charleston? It appears that it’s about 25 miles by ocean from the mouth of the N. Edisto.
Other than the obvious weather/wind issues, are there any things to look out for if you go by ocean (rather than by ICW)?
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
I would go straight to the 2NE bouy before I made a turn toward the jetties.

From Steamboat Landing, it’s actually about the same distance going up the ICW, and I would imagine it’s obviously much safer/calmer going the ICW.

Why is that? I appreciate any info.

There are breakers on the North side of the channel about all the way to the East(far)side of Deveaux Island. If you get a calm day it would be better to take the ocean route.
Assuming you are talking about taking the ICW to the Harbor then out to the jetties, that’s a long ride with a bunch of sand bars and ‘no wake’ zones. I wouldn’t try to get out at the Stono.
Have you looked into fishing 4KI? It’s not as far and may have the same type of fish that you are trying to target. The Edisto Nearshore is also a nice reef that doesn’t get a bunch of pressure. Both are easy to get to from Steamboat.
