Editos Tips/Suggestions

Coming down to Edisto next Saturday 21st. I will have a 17’ cc and a couple of fishing kayaks. We have rented a house on Eddingsville Beach Rd on Frampton Creek. Any suggestions for fishing (not looking for spots) would be appreciated. Also, any local restaurants you would recommend and is there a seafood market nearby to buy shrimp, etc…?

Thanks, never been to Edisto and we are looking forward to it.

right now, I like the Waterfront Rest., next would be Plantation Grill in the resort

Edisto is by far our favorite place to vacation. Plenty to do if you know how to be resourceful. Kayaking the creeks is one of our favorites. Enjoy your time there. For what it’s worth, if you use the landing at the state park, watch the rips during tide change. You nearly need to go in to the ramp sideways and the current will straighten you up - or slam you into the dock… I quit using the park and use either Steamboat or the Marina; depending on which side of the island I want to be on.

Fresh seafood at Flower’s - right where you turn to go into Steamboat landing. Only other is Edisto and it’s down by marina.

x2 on Waterfront Rest. for dinner.

Frampton Cr should be good fishing. Going out I would try N. Edisto end before the south end. Water is clearer there more times. Put in at Steamboat or 174 bridge at Dawhoo. Live shrimp & finger mullet under a cajun thunder next to oysters and grass points and edges with water flow. There is a yak throw-in in Botany Bay that goes into Ocella Cr. Turn left at the tree in the marsh with all the junk in it-Botany Bay Rd - go to end and left into gate / keosk and sign in.

Hope you have good weather. We were down in June and got blown out by NE winds and storms.

Doug, Good info in posts above… I have always wanted to put my kayak in at Oscella creek in Botany. Very fishy and very unpressured. Yak only launch. You have my #. We will go out in the AM in the N. Edisto if you are game. AM will be low which is perfect

DFreedom- Ditto everything the above said. We are there next week as well and will definitely eat at the Waterfront. You might try the Sea Cow Eatery. Not too bad. Keep in mind, there aren’t many to choose from. If you want a REALLY good meal at a larger price, try ‘The Old Post Office’. A little pricey but worth every penny IMO. You will get mixed reviews about Dockside on Big Bay Creek. We have not tried it lately.
On the fishing, there are 3 creeks up in the vicinity of the end of Peter’s Point Rd. Fishing, Bailey and Store Creeks are great for your 17’cc or the yaks. Look for downed timber along the edges and of course everything jford said. Lots of reds up there but you need to find the structure. You can reach this area by going north up Big Bay Creek or around the bay and up St. Pierre Creek and hang a right. It’s been my experience to not waste time on the big water. You will catch many more fish back on the smaller creeks. Lots of trout under some of the docks. Caught a ton this same week last year. There are some shallow spots close to low. Watch your depth finder! If you can find a map or a chart you will see the creeks I mentioned.
If you have never been to Botany Bay it is MUST! What a low country jewell. Get there right when they open (6 I think) and walk out to the beach for the sunrise. Got some unreal pics last year.
If you want to go to a spot where all you can see and hear is birds and water, go about half way up the South Edisto towards ■■■■■■■ Cut (ICW) and anchor over out of the channel close to shore. A couple boats will come by during the week but for the most part you will be by yourself.
Have a great week! IMO Edisto and the entire ACE Basin is not close to heaven - it is heaven.
If you want to meet for a beer at the Marina one afternoon (Billfish Tournament) PM me and we can exchange #'s.

Also, the Firehouse Rest. in Hollywood is worth the 30 minute drive

Try Whaley’s (bar and restaurant) on Myrtle Drive…it’s got great food. Also for a more “refined” atmosphere, Grovers at the Golf club in Wyndham is excellent. AS for Yak fishing, I don’t think you can beat putting in at Botany Bay, go left out of the launch and look for structure. It’s not heavily fished and I usually get a bunch of Trout and Reds in that area.

Best place to get fresh shrimp is to make a run to Bennett’s Point. Go up the south edisto out of big bay creek and hang a left in ICW, Then make right and turn in on the first big creek to your right. It on all the maps. Fresh shrimp off the boat!!!
