Ouch! I envy you multi-motor, big boat dudes until I see the cost. I’ll keep my little 18’er with the 2-stroke 70.

Let me do it next time!!

Dang, you probably could have done all that yourself for less than $500 [:0] None of that is hard. Bring it to me, I’ll do it for half price.

This

Ok I ain’t doing it myself, i own 2 businesses and have 3 small children. NO TIME
Just asked what others were paying for service.
I know professional service ain’t cheap and cheap service ain’t professional.

thats steep for simple maintenance

$249 per engine for labor service
$199 per engine for waterpump labor
$110 for t-stats
opti plugs are about $15 each times 12

carbon treatment
gear lube
fuel filters
waterpumps
t-stats
$1700 plus or minus plus tax
seems about right to have a professional do it.

Last time I paid to have a water pump impeller changed it was around $150 for just the impeller being changed, $200 if they replaced the water pump housing, that was at least 6-8 years ago. The rest of the stuff you mentioned would be the least expensive of all you had done.
$1900 is ridiculous.
I know what you are saying about professional service not being cheap, but it seems like the guy is most professional at getting in your wallet.
( this coming from someone who paid $100.14 today for 7 quarts of oil and an oil filter )

Then I stand corrected…last time I changed them several years ago they were around $10 at an auto parts store.

All the power to DIY’ers- but don’t confuse the cost of doing-it-yourself with the costs of professionals- those that operate a business. If the above posters agree you can do it for 33-50% of the charge at a business I don’t think any business owner would be surprised. You can grow your food, make your own clothes, mow your own lawn, fix your own teeth, remove your own kidney, paint your own art for FAR less than you can buy it for. Of course you likely don’t calculate the costs of the tools you used, your time you spent, the rent of the garage you used, the car you used to go get the parts, and of course you don’t pay liability insurance, health insurance , OSHA compliance, city-county-state-federal licensing, professional fees ( taxes), advertising, accountants, and I’d keep going but I have to get back to work myself.

Compare costs at multiple professional locales if you wish, or do it yourself and justify the math. But it really doesn’t work to compare DIY to a business service.

If your willing to pay 200.00 to have someone take off a foot and put it back on more power to ya.
Put a name on my shirt and call me Andy that seems,no that is too dang much…

I’m with cape horn. $200 in labor for job the a “professional” should be able to accomplish in 40minutes is high to me.
Even taking into consideration of overhead costs. Assuming labor costs are $100/hr, they’re getting paid 2hrs for a job that should pay 1 to 1.3 hrs.
I’m familiar with flat rate pay. I’ve been a dealer mechanic. I don’t know what a marine tech is paid, but I imagine it’s between $16-$28/hr flat rate. That extra $70/hr is to cover overhead.
