Epic Day on the Bi-Op-Sea and smoke on the water

I thought the word might be a little too strong but Jesse used it in his report so why not… http://biopsea.com/reports.php

The long winded version…
After asking around on this board for recommendations for a boat to fish out of Pirates Cove in Manteo (pronounced Manyo interesting to me at least). I contacted a couple and finally got set up with the one SkinneeJ suggested the Bi-Op-Sea. My father-in-law (Doug) and I had fished aboard the owners boat in he had in Charleston several years ago the Au-Top-Sea. Knowing what a nice boat was and that the Bi-Op-Sea was an upgrade to her made this an easy choice. Most of our crew myself, Doug, my best friend (Barton), his dad (Mack) who both live in Oak Ridge, Tn and had come in the night before so we could catch the opening game of USCs regional rolled out Swansea about 9:30 am Sat. We picked up our other 2 fishermen in Fayetteville a friend (Nate) and his 16 yr old step-son (Austin) who had never been offshore (Nate was in the navy for 20yr so of course hed been out a mile or two :P). We got out to PC about 5:45 and met with Capt Jesse Granitzki who helped me set the whole trip up. The fishing had been crummy all week (or I should say the catching had been). On Sat they had only managed one gaffer dolphin and successful White release. He gave us the option of heading one way to a hot Marlin bite or the other direction for Dolphin, and maybe the Bigeye/YFT. Just one boat in the fleet had managed 2 good bigeyes that day. Both fish weighing in at just over 100 if I remember correctly. We went there to chase Tuna so thats what we requested, all agreeing there was no reason why Sunday couldnt be the day that turned their week around while making ours (pilot whales were there and cappy said the tuna are usually with them) and Jesse of course obliged and said see you at 5AM. We went back to over the bridge to our hotel/cottage that he had recommended to me. Whites Shopping Ctr Hotel. Great call by Jesse the first of several. Slept 6 guys comfortably, ver

did you seriously read the whole report. please send me the cliff notes.

looks like an incredible trip. What did you have to drink with dinner? I reccomend a nice merlot with the Sugar Creek sampler (6oz Filet, 6oz, pork chop, 6oz seared tuna steak)

Great pics, just busting your chops…

Sweet! Told you so!!! Glad that you guys had a great time! Hopefully you told them that the “human greenstick” said “hello”… I think that everyone should take a trip up to OI at some point for the different experience and education.

PS I am jealous! Last time I turned down a trip on the Bi-op-sea, they caught 51 whites and 1 blue on an overnighter!

well you guys can quit fishing now, it will be hard to top that!!

dang that’s sweet!!

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Yeah it will be HARD to top, but it’ll me a sweet memory for every time we don’t destroy them, and great reminder of why it’s called fishing not catching. The 16yr old maybe ruined for life though as the biggest thing he’d caught previously was a small black bass.

Funny story to that. That is Mack my friend's dad. He's the Fire Chief in Oak Ridge, TN (well till August when he hangs up his axe and boots), and they handle July 4th celebratory fireworks. This past year an ember landed on his hat and burned a hole straight through. The hat is custom made because he patched the whole with the Gamecock! So you can make you own!

I think I did but if I didn’t I sent him the link to the post to hopefully he’ll see you had a hand in it. I sent one of the pictures to several friends and already have two groups wanting their contact info.

Hey Jeff,
Yeah that seems to be their niche that and YFT. The dolphin are a by product / back up kind of deal if they cannot get on the tuna. They also said they have a great marlin bite and based on Skinnee’s comment above about 51 releases on an over nighter that’s nuts. Still would like to try that sword trip with you sometime.

about how much does the trip cost and did you get to keep all of the fish? Looks like something I’d like to do.
