Hello All,
I am going to be at Folly Beach July 15 to 21.
I have always Surf fished,Trolled in a Kayak for sharks and Pier fished since the 70’s and enjoyed watching the King fishing. Well, this is the year I quit watching.
So I am looking for some opinions on my equipment for King on the pier.
Penn cv 6000 on a 9ft Penn rod, for throwing out the anchor And Penn 113h on a 6’6" Penn slammer as the fighting rod.
Far as the rigging I will need some advice on what and how when I get there. I have been making 6ft 80lb. mono leaders
I think your fighting rod sounds good. People usually opt for a 12’ or so surf rod for the anchor. I use a 12’ uglystick, it works just fine. You’ll want to make or buy a few wire kingfish rig with 2-3 treble hooks, and plan on losing those rigs to sharks. Water has been really murky this year, I think a king has yet to be caught this summer.
**You’ll also want to bring a rod or cast net for baitfishing. Kingfishers get quite grumpy when others take bait from the tank without helping to get said bait.
FYI they sell anchors, trolley clip release and king rigs at the pier shop. Hope that helps.
