After months of working like a fool, I had a cancellation today, so I took to the water. Headed out around 7 am to catch the last hour of incoming and then fish the outgoing.
1st drop hot, but mostly small fish… a dozen or so rat reds and dink trout…plus two big reds that cut me off. Next drop around the corner was loaded with reds near the top of the slot. Caught around 12 between 21 and 23…plus a host of rats, three keeper trout and several short trout and ladies. Third drop also hot on top of a submerged bar…bass after bass, 1 more keeper trout and a couple of ladies. Fourth drop hot as fire, but all rats…fast as cork hit water it was gone. After a dozen more, hit the fifth drop and found a school of 23-25 inchers. They bit like crazy for a half hour, then a boat plowed by and the wash slowed the bite. Sixth drop was also on fire, caught a dozen or so nice fish, several rats and two more keeper trout…plus small trout and a lady. Hit the last drop and caught a few rats, but nothing else and called it a day at low tide with a thunderstorm coming.
Fish came on mud minnows, shrimp, Gulps, finger mullet and grubs.
Been a long time since I caught fish at will. Wish I’d been fishing a tournament…I’ve never caught so many fish dead on 23 inches! As you can see below…I had fun! G8rnsc turned me down…couldn’t go because of work.
I think we will have a good fall season.
