finding oysters near Edisto??

I’m not talking about Bobby Fontaine’s Seafood, but where in the edisto waters can you find some good oysters??

Thanks EF. I’ll give it a try this week. I might even take Mr. Jim R. with me aka scooter man.

Go up ■■■■■■■ Cut to Ashe Island / Beet Island. Or put in at Bennetts. State/Public grounds there and plenty of oysters. You can pick 'um there without getting out the boat.:stuck_out_tongue:

When I was a young boy, my Grandfather would take me fishing at Bennent’s Point. Back then, the rules were different. The landing was just a gravel ramp between some shrimp boats. We would go to a raised oyster bank and pick up as many as we wanted. There was one place at low tide, we would intentionally get trapped on the bed and walk to a pool of water and catch the best spot tails. I miss those days fishing with PopPop.

Bennetts is still there. Now is a 2 lane concrete ramp with a floating dock between some shrimp boats. Still have cold drinks, bait, and the market.

Edisto area has more areas but a lot are closed. All around Big Bay and Steamboat is closed for shellfish.

I hope this is not a dumb question, but does that include blue crabs? Are they not safe to eat? I eat them all the time, and that just threw me for a loop.

Just trying to learn every bit I can about fishing…

blue crabs are safe. Shellfish closings applies to oysters and clams only.

Crabs are on. Shellfish are out of season now. Months with “R” in it. Seriously - check the DNR regs. Pretty sure it’s out of season.

I think oyster season closes May15 but check dnr website to be sure. I used to get them at Togadoo Creek when I was a teenager.
