First 40

Got my first big red today at folly. 40.5 in. Special thanks to the guys that helped me land it in the rocks and take the pic. Also thanks to Steveo for the gear recommendations. My 7 year old was psyched. Caught it on cut whiting that we caught when we got there.

Nice fish staystrapped. Congrats hopefully it will be the first of many.

Congrats glad I could help. Let me know if you need any other info.

Duuude! Brooo! Way to gooo! Thats a thick one too. Nice catch. For some people thats a fish of a lifetime.

Stud for sure.

What did this rookie learn…
These fish are extremely strong there were points the fight that I couldn’t move the fish
Keep your shoes on if there is a chance that you might have to go into the rocks
The $1.29 Walmart rigs work great
Have a reel with decent line capacity, this fish peeled off line at will despite a decent amount of drag
Fresh cut bait beats frozen
We have a great fishing community who rushed to help me with this fish, a guy went over the wall with me at the end of folly and grabbed the fish while I managed the rod
This fish bent my 9 foot surf rod like it was a noodle do not underestimate their power

That is a healthy Red for sure.

Real Nice:smiley:!

Well done! Awesome fish. Will be a great memory with you and your son for years.
