First Annual Ultimate Inshore Fishing Tournament

First Annual Ultimate Inshore Fishing Tournament Raises Epilepsy Awareness

Fishing tournaments attract plenty of attention in the Lowcountry. Each year there are tournaments help to raise money and awareness for different causes. Most of these causes are quite worthwhile and anglers enjoy being able to compete while competing with other anglers in the sport they love. This year there is a new tournament to help raise awareness for Epilepsy, being held in Charleston. We hope everyone that enjoys tournaments will consider competing in this event. This is a copy of a letter I received recently describing the tournament and also looking for Captains that may be interested in this event:

Dear Captain,

Charlestons first Ultimate In-Shore Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. The South Carolina Advocates For Epilepsy (S.A.F.E.) would like to invite you to join us as a professional guide for this years event.

The Ultimate In-Shore Fishing Tournament provides a challenge like no other current tournament in our area. Fishing as a team, each group will work together to catch one (legal sized) each of the five-targeted species: Red Drum, Black Drum, Spotted Sea Trout, Sheepshead and Flounder. Teams may consist of two anglers, a celebrity and a professional fishing guide. Anglers may use artificial, cut or live bait and must use rods & reels. Awards will be given based on standings as determined by targeted species, accumulated fish points and weigh in times.

With over 90,000 epilepsy patients in South Carolina and approximately 2,100 new patients diagnosed each year, it is imperative that we raise epilepsy awareness and funds for research in our state. Epilepsy is more common than cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinsons disease combined and is the third most common neurological disorder in the United States. However, epilepsy remains the least funded and most misunderstood of all major chronic medical conditions. S.A.F.E. is
