I’m happy to say this day has came early this year but the Charleston water temp will reach 65 degrees this afternoon, making it the first official day of the 2016 shark season. It wasn’t until April 8th of 2015 that we hit the 65 degree mark last season. Here’s to a successful season for everyone! BOL
Didnt know 65 degrees marked the official start of shark season but good to know. Definitely been a mind winter and a warm March, long fishing season this year.
Last 10 years date on which Charleston water temp reached 65 degrees:
4/8/15
4/12/14
4/12/13
3/19/12
3/20/11
4/3/10
4/5/09
4/6/08
3/25/07
3/13/06
This year (3/14/16) is the second quickest to the 65 degree mark in last 10 years. Could be a big year.
I heard a sandbar was landed this weekend at folly, they’re back
I caught a little fellow 3 ft. sandbar, I believe, on Friday 3/11 red fishing. We had one other hook up that bit off which was also about 3 ft. 3/12. We didn’t catch many smaller fish at all. It does look like it’s about that time. Good luck to all.

Looks like we’ll be hitting that 65 degree threshold by 2/26/18…
what temp gauge are you looking at? I look at harbor water temp printed daily on the weather page of post and courier-I think it was 58 this morning
Was wondering also? Folly Pier reporting 58.
I doubt it. But I caught sharks last December with water in the high 50s. I got my reel nearly destroyed by a monster in mid December as well. It was a monster monster shark like the week before Christmas.
57 past the rocks yesterday, slightly warmer inshore
Checked the water at the pier when I heard it was 64 because it sounded too good to be true. At the end of Folly Pier the top was reading 60.5 and bottom was reading 58-59. Little bit colder than reported in papers and NOAA but still getting nice and warm. Season should be upon us very soon.
gonna be a little while yet, still reading 57 offshore earlier this week
But he said… Lol
