First time fishing in Edisto

we rented a house for the week in the middle of january at edisto, i have a 16 ft jon boat with 40 hp and i would like to take my 6 year old grandson and his dad fishing, where would you suggest and fish with what, artificial or live etc, any help would be appreciated, i just hope it is not going to be too cold, i have a garmin 940 with gps on the boat, this is my first fishing trip to edisto
thanks

Trailer that 16 footer up to steamboat landing. Once in just cruise (start upstream) and pick any bend, feeder creek or oyster rake. Anchor up and throw corks with mud minnows and a 3-4’ leader. Make sure the leader is clear mono (10 lb max) and use a split shot to keep the minnow down. Work an area for 10-20 mins. If nothing, move on. Keep that up, and sooner or later that 6 year old will be amazed. Not sure when you’re there, but the 19th through the 22nd of Jan will be blazing action up in those creeks. Good Luck!

Thanks Baitball, i googled it and see exactly where your talking about. I just found out that the house my daughter and her husband rented is on the bay point, at the mouth of Big Bay Creek and the South Edisto inlet, we will have access to a boat ramp at that point, what is your thinking in that particular area or creeks, we can go up to steamboat and do as you reccomend i just want to make the trip fun for my grandson, i can sit in a boat all day with little to no action and still have fun, but he will not want to do that i am afraid [:0]

Remember to bring something to keep him occupied during the down time. If it gets slow you can also take a break from fishing from time to time to let him explore the beaches for shells, crabs, ect… & then go back & fish some more.

Not much beats a bucket of mud minnows or pail of fiddler crabs to keep the little boys interest between bites

sounds like a couple of experienced grand dads, i have a live well on the boat and that does sound like a good idea with the fiddler crabs,

Go up big bay from the ramp until the water forks. Stay right and follow that creek until you hit trees on big muddy banks. Anchor up and hook em up.
