I will be going out for the first time next month. What should I expect as far as Being Sea Sick … I hear horror stories… Is there anything I can do before hand?
You’re gonna get sick.
Get real drunk the night before. I am talking about at least 5 bph* or a 5 ldph** for 5 hours. Then, crank open a coldie before you step foot on the boat.
Voila! You will be rollin’ on the boat with your sea legs attached!
*beers per hour
**liqor drinks per hour
Get you a patch and roll with it…do not take drammine…Patch is alot better…will make the experience much better
I dont chase em, I replace em
I might have been borne at night but it wasn’t last night… Im no stranger to a nice cold one but it just dont sound like fun to get cross eyed before going out… Now I have heard Ginger pills or Dramamine work well, as well as the patches behind the ear… But I thought you guys might have some good ideas…Maybe Ill get lucky and It will be non stop reeling and I want have time to get sick…
If you can, why not take a short trip on a 3’-5’ day to see how you feel.
Nothing worse than having a trip ruined by sea sickness-most Capts will not return to port because someone is sick; but I do not know what your trip entails-all day with pro Capt, friend’s boat, size of boat etc.

better bring the fish whistle
Don’t eat a lot of rich food before or on the boat. Stay away from really sugary drinks and heavy foods, unless its fried chicken. Don’t get too hungry or too full. Stay hydrated and don’t think about it. In addition get a patch or some of the other stuff and get it into your system before you get on the boat not when you are starting to feel sick.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

a man can fish for his entire life, 'fore he realizes its not the fish he has pursued!!!
take mescaline when you go to bed the night before and when you make up in the morning. Then have fun and dont think about getting sick. If you think about it you will for sure get sick. Wear a visor or hat it gives a point to focus on similar to the horizon.
If you think about it you’ll get sick. Try to keep busy. Steer the boat or something.

Just go out and have fun! You have already started the worrying a month ahead. I used to worry like that but I never got sick. Just eat good the night before and get a good nights rest.

Best advice on here!..but I don’t think he will be going to sleep…
My Fish Wistle is only for fresh water fish … I Might need to upgrade it…
…
Thanks for all the good advice… Just excited about finaly getting to go … I’ve been wanting to go for 15 years now. Finaly I get my chance.
We will be going out on the aggressor. My brother lives down there works at a FD in Wadmalaw. He told me if we could get on a big boat it would be less of a chance to get sick…
just dont worry about it… crack open a beer on the ride out… eat you some tater chips or something on the way… then drink a few more beers… stay hydrated and eat…
Yes, the AG is what? 60+feet. That makes a big difference.
On a calm day, you probably will think you are in your AC living room; even with some sea, the motion will be minimized.
I envy you, that trip is worth waiting 15 years for-great boat and crew-you will catch so many fish you won’t have time to be sick.
Any time you go OS in my tiny 20’er, you better not be prone to seasickness.
Have a great day!!!

Getting sick is all in your head. If you think about it enough you will make yourself sick. Patches and pills are for little girls.Nuff said.
great first post
Ole’ time cpt.'s[50’s] ALL said in agreement “look at the horizon, something steady, NEVER look down; if that does not work, live with it, it’ll end eventually”[in other words ‘be tough’].
I’ll never forget my dad holding his false teeth in one hand throwing up and holding his rod in the other hand[catching fish too]. That kind of blood line has helped me through life, you just develop that attitude too; YOU WILL MAKE IT if you endure…
