First Timer

Hello, avid fisherman from Rocky Mtns just moved out and pumped to try my hand with my son. Have rod and reel with leader and need to where to go from there. Headed to Hunting Island in a week. Any help greatly appreciated.

Stop by Haddrells in Mt Pleasant and chat with them , they will help guide you as to how ; where ; bait ; and type of gear/riggin to use…
good luck…

Will catch nearly everything.

Use a double drop rig with a large enough pyramid weight to keep it put. Small hooks and cut shrimp the size of your thumb nail. You will be introduced to many fish!
I have caught pompano, whiting, reds, even bonnet head sharks on this rig. It works.
Utilize this forum i have learned a lot over the years on here some very nice guys willing to offer advice.

Good luck and post pictures of what you catch.

New, There is also some great freshwater fishing in SC. If you’re after big fish we have landlocked stripers in a lot of the Midlands area lakes. Also, there are some really big catfish in Santee. Live herring for the stripers and cut or live herring for the catfish.

Yep to what Spoon said if you get the chance to come to the midlands area. Lake Murray is a great striper fishery as is the Santee system for catfish. Plenty of folks around here that will happily give you some advice on what to do.
