After a successful trip to capers 2 days ago to build some confidence (and my radio antenna) and another calm day. Me and a buddy pushed on out to the 60 for the first time in my boat. Great seas even though it was a tad bumpy and virtually no visibility on ride out. Used gps and slow rolled out of the harbor in the fog. Slowly made our way in the 18’ key west. About 5 miles from reef it cleared up and then it was on.
Fished first spot at 60 with fresh shrimp. Lots of seabas keepers were around but few and far between. Started jigging and caught a few more mixed size bsb some keepers. Got on a sheep hole after moving a bit but all undersize (on shrimp) one on sabiki rig!. Ended the day with over 2 qts of fillets.
Semi close call with a coasty “hauling the mail” between the jetties in 1/4 mile vis. Good day though
If you used a chicken rig, you could drop TWO strawberries!

That’s why I have a GPS app on my cell phone as a back up. GPS Waypoint Navigator works great on Android phones. The free version lets you store about 10 waypoints but the version that you buy is unlimited (only about $10). This works off satellite so you don’t need internet.

Claim, chicken rig had me rolling! I also use the gps on my phone for backup and if I am truly stranded I have the radio and a gps beacon. What would you do mdaddy? Got any tricks we should know?
