Fish From 2012

The last two years I’ve come down to Folly Beach for vacation for a week. I just recently stumbled on these pictures on my phone so I figured I’d post them. So last year I expierenced the best surf fishing of my life I was catching at least 5 trout a day and caught my first red drum that came in at around 32". (all fish were released) My fishing was cut short after catching a sting ray barb to the forearm. So this year I was extremely excited to fish the whole vacation without getting hurt. First day was a decent day just getting my feet wet becoming familiar with the area finding where the trout were and on what tides to work. I located the trout hanging on the edges of a sandbarand hooked 4 the first day. Second day for the first time I had company next to me. Guys were using clam, squid, and cut mullet. I was using live mullet carolina rigged. Those guys ended up getting skunked and I pulled two nice trout out right next to them fishing the rig nice and slow bouncing the bottom. Next day I had company again guy was using cut mullet. This was the first day I got skunked in awhile I was fishing the incoming. The spot changed a lot from the previous year where when the tide changes it came in much faster and some of the beach washed away. Guy next to me caught a big ray and I think after watching him attempt to unhook it I was having flashbacks of getting stabbed. Called it a day I was a little ticked off at myself. Next day fished the same tide again and had a few hits and just wasnt focused missed the fish. Took a day off hit the tackle shop and got a Badonka donk bomber in mullet color. Figured screw it I’ll try some top water see what happens. So the last day had a mullet live lined on one rod and bomber on another. Went out on the sand bar as far as I could threw some cast and had a feeling something was following sure enough had a beaut break the surface and slam it. Ended up with three trout the last day blanked on redfish but thats okay. Had a great injury free trip cant wait to come back down nothing beat

If I can give you one tip on redfishing, you really increase your odds with fresh mullet. By fresh I mean live and then cut in chunks, either fished in the surf or under a float near an oyster bar. Good luck.
