If I’m not mistaken, this will be the longest stretch of freezing temps we’ve had in the area in 4+ years. Many believe that the mild winters are responsible for the great shrimp harvest and trout numbers.
Will be interesting to see if this cold snap is going to unwind all that.
seem to recall something like below 48 sustained, or below 44 for basically any time at all, gonna be ugly for shrimp and trout
i was thinking it has been 6 years since the last one, there’s basically not a deer, turkey, squirrel, trout or shrimp in SC that has seen weather like we’ll have the next few days

There you are. Great resource on fush here at the CFC. Anybody gonna drag a net and find out the mortality on the fish populations? Dead fish don’t float for a while in this cold.
IMO, Nature is checking the strongest gene pool. Hope the Bull sharks get back south and stay there.
I’m gonna go this weekend and I will let y’all know. The spots I fish hold fish that never leave. I will know if there was a fish kill. Idk but I will find out and report my experience.

I can catch them in the same exact spots, any time a year, anytide and any conditions. I’ve never been skunked when I put in effort. Sometimes I will go and throw less then 10 cast if I’m on the water not specifically fishing. If I throw 1 cast and don’t catch I still consider it a skunking. I have 2 trips this year where I’ve thrown less than 5 cast and that’s not soaking bait. So if you fish less than 2 minutes how much should you expect.
I am very good at reading the water and will find signs of a fish kill, if they are there. I grew up in and on a canal, pond and swamp and been doing this stuff a life time, I was literally fishing since 2 years old in my diapers. I have enough water time and experience to notice things most people wouldn’t see. Ill go on the water just to be out there and scout areas.

You aren’t saying that a massive fish kill is a good thing are you - even if the jet stream knew what the gene pool is.?
