Fish Kill

information on the striper floaters we’ve all been seeing

http://www.dnr.sc.gov/news/2016/aug/aug22_lakemurraystripers.html

Best part of the whole article is the first line of the last paragraph that states …

"The temperature-oxygen squeeze that is impacting the striped bass does not render live fish unsafe to eat and, therefore, SCDNR is encouraging anglers to keep fishing. "

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

It’s time to let the Army Corp of Engineers to stomp on the necks of SCEG and demand to put in oxygen lines like we see at Clarks Hill. The difference in the quality those two fisheries is night and day.

The difference between the fisheries has little to do with O2 lines … Greenwood has O2 lines and it is nothing like Clarks Hill … The difference between the fisheries has more to do with the river systems than O2 lines …

That said, good luck on both points … The CoE taking over and the installation of O2 lines on Murray … The MSC has been pushing that agenda (O2 lines) for years to no avail …

Corp of engineers has no say. I dobut SCANA shareholderso want to pay for better fishing. It would be great. Even better if the oxygenated water was off limits during the summer like Lake Cherokee. Corp has the unlimited fund of tax dollars. SCANA has to show a profit.

Joby

Never gonna happen.

I wish we could at least scoop all the floaters up and take them to a dog food processing facility or something…it kills me seeing all those fish go to waste

Sounds good, but in reality probably not feasible. The surface temp’s probably in the mid 80’s right now. Between that and the sun beating on them, I doubt you could get to them quick enough where you would even feed them to a dog.

Lawcrusher where are the o2 lines in Greenwood? Who paid for them. I know it was not Duke power it used to be their lake I think its controlled by Santee Cooper Utility now so if I had to guess they paid for it. Santee Cooper is basically the state so it makes sence.

SCE&G could afford it. We pay 30%-40% higher utility rates than anyone else in the state.

I agree. We pay more than Duke and Southern Company customers pay in other states as well.

I think Duke sells power to Mid Carolina, and their rates are still way lower than ours.

Even with the O2 lines on Greenwood, there are still floaters and the last time I was out there it was a bunch. Greenwood is only 60 ft deep and most of the fish are dying from starvation because they won’t come out of the “good water” to go after bait.

Clark Hill has a bit more current that Murray. You have that cool water coming in from Russell where lake Greenwood and Murray are so far apart its just hot water rolling in.

I worry more about Lake Hartwell than any other of the lakes. If they don’t get some good rain they are go
